Hi,
I hijacked this old thread because we seem so have a problem with a variable overflowing in the forum engine. If I had posted a new one about it noone could read it. I hope Georg doesn't mind.
This comes from the ID of the threads are higher then what can be held in a Signed Integer. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Time to use LONGs instead of INTs. Or maybe, Double LONGs? It ain't over till the fat lady falls on ya!

Hehe, I think you all just closed off all new threads so you wouldnt have lock down so many whining posts, but what the hell, its better like this than reading all those whiners cry how the patch killed their setup and hunting tactics
Not to mention all those miners that will whine because they cant open their jettisoned cargo containers

From the MSDN archives and 1st day of the "Administering a SQL server database" training:
Quote:
Integers are stored as 16-bit (2-byte) numbers ranging in value from -32,768 to 32,767.
------------------------------------------------ CCP please fix your patch so I can play with my corpmates again soon. |

Edited by: Rebellion on 18/09/2003 08:25:23 I think it's a divide overflow that might be connected to how the pages displayed for a thread do not always match. Page numbers are usually 1 more too much.
nm, just noticed the thread ID's of the new threads.
However, the page numbering is indeed off. Clicking on the last page of a thread often displays a blank page.

Edited by: Jarjar on 18/09/2003 08:24:56 DJvGalen: ... Yes? Which is why they should use long ints, aka. 2^32 (max 4.2 billion threads).
Edit: Btw, unsigned = 0-65535

Search for CInt in the code, replace with CLng. Fixed.

an int is stored with 16 bits on windows yes, but it's 32 bit on almost every other platform.

Actually an int stored on windows XP is a 32bit integer (according to the MSDN notes about C++ fundamental types)

This is not a platform problem or CPU problem, it's a programming language problem. They used a CInt cast in the code where they should have used a CLng cast. It's real simple to fix, I'm suprised it hasn't been fixed already considering it takes 2 minutes to fix.

Er, not really.. An SQL server integer is 2^32.. Which is considered to be a long in most other languages.. So a typical mistake as stated further in the thread is to cast an SQL-Server integer into an Integer, and not a Long.
Um.. Whatever..

I think it takes longer then 2 minutes to fix, as the number of possible places to have a reference to the thread ID along is quite large and probably spans several different pages.
It's easy to fix, just a bit tedious and mind-numbing.
