Hallo, how can a person be so stupid to put a buy order in jita for ferrogel 800isk p/u over the highest buy order ?

they actually have a really good idea of market mechanics..
They know I will then undercut them by .01 ISK and then they go down 1.5k more until they reach my threshold at which point they buy it all up, cancel their orders and try to turn a profit.
Edit: still ****es me off to no end though

Oh and looking at the market now, if he is indeed doing what I suspect he is. You can buy 10k from the lowest sell order, and sell it to him for a loss of only 10mil ISK, and **** him off cause now hes has 10k Ferrogel which he probably has no need for, cause if he is trying to turn a profit on it at all, putting up the orders the way he is, is probably not the best way to go about it.
Maybe he will then put it up as a sell order for 800 ISK less p/u and you can buy it nice and cheap!
Edit: or sell him 1 unit, find out who he is and war dec him. Demand he stop his shenanigans or you will camp the station on him.  |

But seriously, for every 0.01 isk undercutter that chows down underneath my price, I drop another 1% of my price just to soak up these tears.
Nobody *forces* you to follow suit and undercut by massive amounts. If it concerns you so much, don't adjust your price and wait till they're goods are bought out, or better yet, buy up their "Massively underpriced stock" and relist it at a higher value.
Everyone has a pretty legitimate reason for doing what they do, if you don't understand it then why complain? |

Eh, the problem arises when half of the traders panic 'zomg will never sell my stock' and decide to follow the guy. Single sellers usually aren't the issue... it's the crowd that starts following them that annoys me. :) |

Maybe they want ferrogel, well, soon? Soon enough to perhaps convince someone to release some they might have been holding back with a nice price? Perhaps they are hoping that the people that have been buying ferrogel at their price-800 will see the +800 per unit amount and immediately turn their purchases into profit?
If you are a manufacturer, and you have a fat profit to make on deal, but you need <x> to make it, and you will still make large isk even if you overpay for <x>, well, overpaying isn't a bad option.
It's better to get it cheap if you have the time, but sometimes you just don't have the time. |

I am a newbie and I am so happy because many item prices have gone up after the patch, like caldari tags and target painters!
I am also patient enough to wait those price cycles! And I always undercut by 0.01 isk (when I decide to undercut)!

IDK, seems to me the best way to go about it is put up the order at what you want for it, if its within reason compared to the rest of the market it will sell at some point, no needs to play footsies as someone put it.

Most people who undercut by a large amount are just stupid.
That's just an objective statement, derived from my experiance in market trading. There is the rare occasion when there is some strategy are work. But it certainly is rare. Usually it's just someone who clearly dosen't engage in the market often, choosing an arbitrary figure for the sale.
Apparantly tears are involved in this statement somehow (wtf?). I assume there is some esoteric knowledge available only to the subnormal, because all I see are people pointing out that they have suffered a minor inconveniance in an online computer game.
