I am offering a 250 Million ISK Reward for anyone willing to build a module for Simple Machines Forum (SMF - http://www.simplemachines.org) that allows users (and has an option to force users) to input their API information. The effect of inputting their API would be to insert them into a SMF Created Group to grant them forum accesses based on what corporation they are in and whether or not they are a director of said corporation.
While my intent is to use this simply for our corporation, I can think of at least two other forums off the top of my head where such a system would be very valuable as they are an alliance and a coalition where security is an issue.
If you are willing to take this on, I suggest that you contact me either by evemail ingame - "Xornicon Altair", or by email - "neil AT teknomancer DOT com" (you should be able to figure that out).
Upon the successful completion of the first fully functional version of this mod, I will pay out 250,000,000 ISK (negotiable) to the Character of your choice. (I apologize in advance if ISK rewards are not permitted on this forum. I looked for rules and found none that said anything against them.)

While I commend you for your effort and time, I must say that I would like to continue using SMF. It's support is widely available, and there are a great number of readily available themes and mods already available for it. Several of these are already in use by me through multiple websites.
But, don't let my stubbornness and opinions stop you! If you can make it work and it's good, then, by all means, use it! |

OK, in order to get this going, I add another 250 million ISK reward to the person/group who provides a working SMF EVE API character verification/registration mod, which can be installed through SMFs mod installer and is made available to the public.
I hope, Xornicon, you're allowing me to join you with this and agree on gathering one big(ger) reward instead of a couple different, small ones.
I also encourage other SMF users, who'd like to use such a SMF mod as well, to contribute to the reward. Doing so will hopefully attract the coders out there and shows them that we appreciate and honor their time and efforts.

Xornicon and I were contacted by an individual who is now in the process of creating this mod. Specs were agreed upon, initial coding has been started and we're in the process of getting an escrow service to secure this transaction for all involved parties.
We'll update this thread as soon as we have some results (i.e. installed the mod to our forums and tested it).

Here's an update for those who are interested:
The mod is just about finished. Hagen and I will implement it into our respective forums and test it fully. Once we're happy that it's complete and we pay out the full reward to the man who accepted the job, we'll start discussing how to go about releasing it to the general public.
There is no concrete date set for this as of yet!

An additional module I would love to see would be a port over of the gteamspeak module that is availble for vbulletin to SMF. This way you can perhaps add a grant list of corps and alliances that may register. And at the same time perhaps whipe and reset simply requiring that they have a valid API key provided.

At this point, the inital dev is done. Our intent is to get it bug tested and up and fully running before we start looking into adding features.
Don't get me wrong, feature adds will definately be looked into, but, the initial mod is what we're looking for. And if we can ask for some patience as we get the testing completed, we'll post a full features list upon it's release. I might even get around to it before the full release. (I'm holding off on this now because some of the requested features are currently on the bugs list. Not all of the initially requested features are guarenteed to make it to the initial release.)
The basic version, though, is that when a user registers, he/she will be required to input their limited API. From this, their corporation, alliance, and corporation role will be pulled up and the script will place the new user into the appropriate groups based on this information. SMF already had built in the ability to add or remove permissions for specific groups, such as permissions to view specific boards that are otherwise hidden to regular users, so, we're simply automating the administration of these groups.
As for the port that you're seeking, post for that on the simple machines community and I expect someone there might be able to make that happen for you. The API part might be an issue, but, if you can get it ported from vBulletin to SMF, that's half of the job completed right there. http://www.simplemachines.org

The guy who's actually developing it actually came up with a very good, but simple, way of dealing with all of that. So, it's already been thought of. Thanks though!
Some bugs and kinks have been worked out. Some are ongoing. Second version is in testing now and there should be a third soon. I'll keep you posted! If all goes well, we might be able to make something usable available to all by the end of this weekend. But that's just an "if" at this point. Can't promise anything. |

I have to admit, that we're a bit late with testing, but what we've seen so far, looks good. Sasa has really put a lot of effort into this.
I'm pretty sure, Xornicon will be able to announce the mod to the public soon (tm).
*Hint* If you're going to use this mod for your corp/ally forum, don't hestitate to wire some ISKs towards Sasa. Even if it's not the "perfect fit" you're looking for, this is a start from which you're able to fork your own version from and pretty sure saves you a lot of work.

A Release!
We've called it ESAM for the EVE to SMF API Module. It is being released through the site listed below under the GNU General Public License v3. You can find it here: http://code.google.com/p/esam/
Please use the Google Code page for all issues and questions. I may create a new thread on here that covers all the basics and so that people don't need to read through the whole thread.
Bah, nah, I'll just edit the top post.

Ok got it installed on a demo site. Found a few things or rather I may be stumped. I got the latest 1.0.5 version. Installed that. And set up a rule that would make me a SR. Member since I am a director. It left me as a newbie. Then I figured out that you need to change the group from a posting group to a standard group.
Also I might suggest that the pilots of a member not be listed on the side. Leave them in the profile so that a moderator can perhaps see them. But having them on the side might not be needed nor wanted by some.
BTW Great work so far.

One question. Can the eve-api validation(or does it) work against the user name used to register. So if I register with "Space Hog" my api provided needs to validate that one of my pilots is "Space Hog" and not "spacehog"?
I guess light shed on how it validates or options to validate would be nice. |

After some poking around on it. I think having the user pick a profile from the API is or would be ideal. their username is fine and all. But if they could pick on my API that my pilot to represent me is this one. Now if that showed on the side, and defaulted the name shown for the pilot. Then we are getting on the money.

My guess is: You manually changed theme like README file says. Installation found string '?>' and also patched your theme. Now you have in $themedir/Profile.template.php two times same function: template_eve_userapi_settings(). Remove one of those.

Nifty, I like it!
Any chance you'd consider re-releasing this under the LGPL v3? PHP modules are usually loaded through "include", and if I read the GPL right, that means any code that includes this module - or any module based on it - would also have to be under a GPL or GPL-compatible license. Speaking of which, do you know whether a GPL'd module poses issues for the SMF license?

Nice one! I've been searching for a tool like this for ages.
As far as I understood the user is checked via the API on each login. What if he returns with a old but valid login cookie? Or do I have to force my users to login everytime by restricting the cookie lifetime?

Good work!
It's not just every logon, it's every time the user accesses the page (up to once per 24 hours so we don't flood the API servers). If a user returns to the page pas 24 hours since the last time they accessed the page, and they're no longer in the correct corp/alliance, the user will be denied access.

One little request . When people register on smf , could you add that their ingame title became automatical custom title in smf ( with option turn on in smf that members can't change custom titles ) . Or just after registration that they have ingame title (beside group title ) on smf .

The (ingame) title is not part of what the API delivers for a character and therefore can't be added to SMF.

Corporation titles are part of xml character data: http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Char_CharacterSheet_XML. Didn't found 'custom' titles. Before adding this feature I need to make default character selection first. Right now all characters on account are used.

I have made my modifications...
A word of warning...
The API details aren't hashed in any way, thus a web master will have access to every UserID and API Key you put in (you are using your restricted keys right?)
if anyone is interested in trying out the modified version, please point your browsers to this site.
I will not be releasing the modifications publicly, as this project is not my original... unless granted by the original creator (Sasha J).
also if he is interested in seeing the code, he can contact me there.
it is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination... but it works :)

A word of warning...
The API details aren't hashed in any way, thus a web master will have access to every UserID and API Key you put in (you are using your restricted keys right?)
Yes. This was intentional. Otherwise one main feature, clearing up forum registrations/access from pilots who meanwhile left the alliance/corp, wouldn't work.

Ok I changed my full and limited API keys. for all intent purposes the board should think that I left corp. its been well over 24hrs.
But it is still giving me access to boards I have set to only allow a director or member for that matter.
Simply put its not working as it was mentioned it should on the revalidation of a users API key on login.

I am very interested in this mod. However, I had a problem trying to install it. I went to your google code page, looked under issues and I saw issue #13(Not compatible with SMF version 1.1.8) as the problem I am having as well.

That issue will be fixed tomorrow. You can also edit package-info.xml file inside *.tar.gz

Thanks for prompt response. Sounds great! and perfect timing with the extended downtime... I can wait until tomorrow, but I will take a take a look inside the compressed tar just to get familiar with the change.

Does this mod remove people from the usergroups if they drop from corp?
And how about it approving forum applications if their API authenticates?

Got the package installed, but for some reason I'm lost now as I can't add my corporation to the tables. Now I wonder does the package pulls the alliance directly from the eve api? And so with who's? As I didn't had to give my details yet. ----------------------------------

Simply put, this is a great start to a SMF mod. But there are noted bugs and functionality that need to be sorted and fixed. I am still 100% game to throw ISK at this project if I can get a module that is functioning correctly and works as needed for basic member validation. Name the price, time frame etc...
I like SMF forums and want/desire to see this mod as a part of it.
It needs to validate correctly based on the member that is in the correct corp and has the roles indicated. Infact there are a few different ways to take this mod. But getting the current bugs patched is key and critcle.

I am picking up support on this project. I'll begin by taking a look at the existing issues and solving some known bugs. Give me a few days to "get a feel" for the code before you start hammering me with your requests! =)
Please check this page for known problems: http://code.google.com/p/esam/issues/list
If you see anything missing, add it!
Thank you, Squizz

hi love the mod and glad to see work is continuing on it.
I see on the issue page that alot of the issues have been fixed I am just wondering if we can get an eta on 1.0.8, as to 2 big things I am looking for are adding singel Corporation & the only shoing pilot info of the pilot that is in said corp/alliance.

Edited by: Squizz Caphinator on 08/04/2009 19:53:40 v1.0.8 is due to come out soon once some testing is complete. Here is a sneak peek at the changelog.
2009004??: v1.0.8 * Minor code corrections and bug fixes. * Fixed code generating errors in the error log. * Several issues fixed, see http://code.google.com/p/esam/issues/list * Caching implemented. API queries are stored up to 60 minutes. * Ability to add individual corps not in an alliance. * Only corporations defined on the "Manage Corporations" page are listed on the "Manage Rules" page. * Only Regular Groups are displayed on the "Manage Rules" page. * Added "Validate Eve API Users" page * Page validates all user API's that are entered. * Page automatically adds/removes MemberGroup access based on the rules in "Manage Rules" * Invalid API's are removed from the database, and any MemberGroups the user had access to, as defined on the "Manage Rules" page, are then revoked. * Users will only be added/removed from MemberGroups that have rules defined for them - this prevents unwanted removal in many cases. If a MemberGroup does not have a rule defined for it, then that MemberGroup will not be added or removed to any user by ESAM.
* edit - fixed the release date

from what I can tell, it is optional if you do not check the box for "require for registration". You can still add the information in through your profile management. It looks very useful, and have implemented it on oue corp forum. One thing that might help make a little clearer is when you are adding corp info that is not in an alliance, it is asking for user ID, API key, and API username. I found out through trial and error that the api user name, is actually a character name under that api key. The confusion came in that on the api page on EVE, it list "username". Might be wise to change the language to "character name" instead. Other than that, it looks to be a great module, and look forward to future development along this same line, maybe something like an automatic skills page based on api download per 24 hours, etc.
