Reading that has actually made me re-read Kierons post and he says something similar in that making it available offline caters to the power gamer. In some ways its true, in terms of skills training however, it isn't...
How exactly does having the skills webaccessible cater to the power-gamer? OR am I being ignorant here? lol.
Its a fine dream, but a dream none the less and would detract from the game. --------------------------------------------- I'm the root of all thats evil yeah, but you can call me Cooki3
Some people couldn't get a clue, if they were in the middle of a clue field, in the middle of clue mating season, doused in clue pheromones, in a clue suit, shouting "Clooo! Clooo!" whilst beating themselves with a clue stick |

Originally by: kieron Training skills from an out of game interface (short of having a family member log-in and change them for you) is something that will never occur. This has been stated by the Dev Team numerous times.
There are a variety of reasons for this, ranging from "Training skills from outside the game breaks the immersion and the game stops being a game" to "Training skills from outside the game caters to the powergamer at the detriment of the casual player" and a slew of others.
While I totally respect the developers not doing this, the reasons given are clearly rubbish. The only (valid) reason I can think of, is "Its complex, and we have better things to do that re-implement a feature thats already available".
That said: 1. There is no immersion to break. When I log in to the client for 5 minutes to change a skill before going to work in the morning, I am not immersed. The only times Id use this feature would be explicitly when I do not have the time/patience to immerse myself in the game.
2. The powergame argument is null too. Powergamers already pre-plan their skill training such that they don't need to log in at odd times to schedule a new skill. It is the casual gamers that would more frequenly find themselves at a PC without the time or inclination to actually play EVE, but the need to reschedule skills. Powergamers already get their 43,000 minutes of training done per month. This can only benefit the casual gamers more.
Im sure the slew of other "reasons" are just as silly - save the trump of course. Because if you DID put the effort in to implement this, then I for one would be clamoring for offlien eve-mail, offline buy and sell orders etc :P I fully appreciate its a slippery slope you dont want to start down. Just dont give us bull**** excuses :P

Edited by: Damajink on 08/07/2004 16:37:19 If you are unable the play the game for the ~30 seconds it takes to set a new skill going, then why do you keep paying for it?
And as for being at work, just set a long skill training either in the morning or the evening before....then train the short-time skills when you are able to play.
