Ever since the QR patch everything seems real hitchy and stuttery.
For example: I can't drag items from a jet can to my cargo without the client doing several little mini-freezes. Pretty much anything that involves moving something from one place to another stutters the client like it's getting paid by the lost frames...
I'm not talking about Internet lag here. I'm talking about the client itself hitching and freezing and twitching like mad.
Wasn't like this (or at least it wasn't as bad) before QR. What gives? Have the devs forgotten what asynchronous means? Client freezing blocking calls are bad mmmkay? ---

Yep something is going on. More than you are experiencing such events.

There are many many threads about the client since QR release, and yeah it's as if the client is overworking when you do stuff. Heck even when I am not doing anything it freezes up.

I was going to list a selection of things that went wrong last night but to be honest I'd be here for half an hour.
Aside from my JC issues where everytime I JC I have to re-log after the client freezes (only on my main strangely enough) I experience a wierd and wonderful selection of entirely random hitches and glitches everytime I log in that necessitate numerous re-logs.
My corpies report the same thing.
Needless to say I/we experienced none of these prior to QR.
So for me and I've been playing for two years now, this is the worst patch in terms of client performance that I can remember.
I'd happily go back to Empyrean Age.

It's a good thing you don't make any decisions.
Patch whine, it has always existed. It always will.
Read that thread and keep in mind it's from 2003. "With all of these work arounds and duck tape type fixes I dont think this game will survive the bad press." is a pretty epic prediction don't you think? |

I'm kinda used to this by now, post patch glitching. But the memory leak socket disconnect isn't good. What if you lose your fave ship in a level 4 because of this? Am I going to get it back? For a year its been uber stable for me so to go into a situation where it randomly crashes is very uncomfortable.
You are right about the item dragging, I get mini freezes too. |

Moving things to/from corphangars on ships make the client freeze bigtime.
Why does launching/storing Drones/Fighters make your FPS drop to 0?

Well I don't write the Eve code but I have written many apps that communicate over TCP/IP. If I had to guess based on what I see happening (I've seen it a million times in my own old code before I half-way knew what I was doing) I'd say the devs aren't using asynchronous communication correctly (or at all) in a lot of cases.
Sending a request from a game client to a server should NEVER be a "stop everything including the animations and mouse cursor until I get everything I need back from the server" kind of thing. Eve is actually one of the few MMO's I've played that seems to do this. Most MMO's don't. Heck, even old-ass Asheron's Call 1 doesn't do this.
Now, like I said, I don't know how they are doing it since I don't have access to the code but my advice to CCP is: Do the communication on a different thread or different process (wouldn't really recommend that but if you have to, go for it, anything is better than this) or whatever you have to do but you don't stutter up the customer's client like it's having some kind of seziure every time he clicks something. How this got past your QA dept is beyond me. I saw it all over Sisi before it went to TQ but I figured it was just some debug routine that you had turned on for testing or something and surely you wouldn't send that to TQ... I was wrong I guess... Unfortunately it appears to just be bad code... :( ---
