So they can cloak...they don't look like they are at all useful in combat, what are they good for? just scouting? _______________________________________________________

Scouting, smuggling, avoiding gate campers, holding lone indies hostage/killing them, hit and runs, holding down an enemy and waiting for the cavalry to arrive :) Lots of interesting uses, I'm sure I'll think of more when I get mine in a week or two (waiting for prices to drop a bit). ---------------------------

i mean, anything you can't do in an interceptor? (other than the cloacking)i'm currently a ceptor pilot considering trianing for covert ops, hence the question. _______________________________________________________

Instajump bookmarking popular pirate camps (then selling them), gangwarp point for fleet operations, keeping the player with the highest gang skills safe from enemy fire... what slim said... and someone will probally find more uses.

Oh... oh... Theres not alot of direct combat use for them, even with level 5 cloaking a group would still have five seconds of dead time where the ambushed-to-be could easily run away. Its a technical support ship, its recon and information, not cloak and pwn.

Quite right. The only exception I can think of at the moment is holding down a lone indy and pummeling it or ransoming it. The indy's slow align to warp and slow speed mean it's not likely to get away. ---------------------------

I can't think of a single useful thing for cloaking, I regret training electronics upgrades to 5 now. Scouting? You can do that in an interceptor, or with the scanner. Smuggling? We have nothing to smuggle. Avoiding gate campers? Not with all the restrictions on cloaking. Holding hostages? You can already do that with interceptors, and much more effectively since you don't have to wait to target. Hit and run, again interceptors can do this just fine. Holding down an enemy? Interceptors or frigates can do this much more effectively.
Basically the module serves no purpose that's not already covered by another ship in the game. Maybe when the different cloaking modules are released this will change, but currently IMO they're as useful as the 1200 units of garbage my agent just called on me to deliver.

Right now with the cloaking restrictions and the lack of the ôBlack Opsö cloaking device. Recon frigates stink on ice.
They are out classed by an interceptor in every category except cargo space.
However, once they are paired with the ôBlack Opsö cloaking device and the 10km restriction is lifted they are going to be quite popular.
The ôBlack Opsö cloaking device will only fit on the recon frigates, and it has a special twist.
You can warp while cloaked.
Think about that.

Problem is with 1 or 2 weapons your going find it hard to take out an indi thats simi equiped for combat. A Halios ship has almost no chance against a good indi pilot. Still Halios is the ship I am going for. _________________________________________________ Gallente defensive innovation comes from unexpected source. |

well covert-ops frigates with covert-ops cloak offer something that you are not able to do with any other ship. You can warp cloaked.
What that means essentially is to warp in middle of your enemy, inspect situation, pick targets.. and set yourself in a good position so other gang members can gang-warp to you and be in perfect position for attack. (picking a single sheep that is not in the herd)

I'd jump on the occasion if instead of using frigates for black ops,CCP would introduce black op cruisers...
Imagine if you will a black ops version of a caldari blackbird, that would definately be something to look forward to

Imagen u have a fleet of 10 bs at save spot while there is a fleet of 15 hotile bs and some interceptors are camping your station (just an exampel). For sure u can send in interceptors to scout but they have to jump out agane after short time even if tehy jump to 300 km from station. Now would be much easier to send in a covert ops frig, jumps in cloaked no one sees it and with covert ops frigat it is even able to fly with a decend speed. Searchs for teh weakest point (maybe a group of 4 bs that stands 20 km besids the other's). Then the pilot have to figure out fdrom wich planet they have to warp to wich range from station so there flee tlands in optimal range to the 4 bs but out of range of the others. Maybe the pilot even have to fly 30 minuts undecovert between enemeis avoiding to come closer then 10 km to find the perfect place as fleet jump in point ;) I can imagine that that would be fun

The Black Ops ships will have some form of this capability, but it won't be "right click on scanner, select warp to". I figure there'll be some sort of high skill requirements, special scanner capabilties for the Black Ops, maybe a module involved, and then a final chance of maybe 25% of actually getting to the target in a safespot. Theres gotta be SOME way of busting safespots that doesn't take 2 days, but also doesn't occur fast enough that its instant-death for the target
