I think it would be beneficial to have a visual indicator on turrets/missile launchers on when a selected target is in firing range. Perhaps a color change on the inner circle or something. |

It would be tough for missiles as they can be outrun even when in range... If they could do it strictly by range, yes, it would be very nice! Much better than shooting a corpmate to see how far off they can fly before you miss them. |

Yes, nothing complicated, just basically the same thing you get in tactical view right now.

what would be really nice is something like a small targeting reticle on the icon for ships you have targeted (kind of like the drone/guns/missile icon they have now, only placed inside the icon (like lower-right hand corner) that appears when you're in targeting range.
Or even something like changing the white border around the icon to green when in range & red when not.

Actually this would add a little more realism... all current ships (in the real world) know how far your weapons can go & will let you know when you are in range... why shouldn't weapons hundreds of thousands of years into the future not have that capability?
At least this is something relatively simple that doesn't unbalance the game. *points to the post on using drones from your cargo bay*

How many REAL ships' fire control systems have you operated? I'm willing to wager none. Here's a hint, real ships aren't completely automated like the simulations you play. The firecontrol tech has to know his weapons, not rely on the computer to tell him everything.

Wow... the name... but.. hes got a point...
and yeah, use your overview and that compass thingy ..(one of the button besides your hud...)
the compass thingy centers on your ship and tells distance too
