I'm not so interested in playing the game in dual monitor mode with the game split across both, instead I want to play the game windowed leaving one of my monitors free for other things.
The problem is if I turn the dual monitor support on in the drivers and run the game it locks up at the splash screen. I have a Radeon 9700. Any ideas how to get the game to fire up in a window on a dual monitor setup?

Yes, don't use dual monitor support. Just have both monitors enabled, and move the window where you want it... That should work.

I'll try to explain myself better.
The game is setup to run @ 1152x resolution in a window. That's how I currently play it. The drivers are set to ignore the fact there is a second monitor.
When in the display properties I extend my desktop to the second monitor the game will not be able to start, even though it is set for windowed mode.
I did a check in dxdiag last night and it seems that the primary monitor is for some reason not direct3d capable. It's definitely a driver issue rather than a game issue.
Anyone know how to get this working on a Radeon 9700 on windows 2000? Currently on Catalyst drives 3.4.

I also have a Radeon 9700, and i can play in windowed mode quite well.
I run eve at 1024 on my primary monitor, and i can still access my secondary monitor, Trillian, windows media player, etc. ================================================ System Specs : Windows XP Professional A7N8X (1004) - AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 256mb PC2100 RAM ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Catalyst 3.4 SoundBlaster Audigy Gamer Maxtor 40GB ATA 133 7200rpm Hard-Drive |

If you r running the game in a window, make sure it is only running on the one screen, and not stretching over to the other screen as well. I had this problem, but as soon as i noticed the edge of the window protruding to the other screen and moved it across, everything started to run sweet.

I wish I could get that far, unfortunately it crashes just after the splash screen appears. I see no window outline at all.

You could try running the game without dual monitors enabled, then enter the game settings and change them to dual monitor, then enable them again and see if that works. Even though this wouldnt free up your other screen, at least you would be able to see if the game is crashing because of this screen (or not). If you see what i mean? lol
However, when i tried to do this the other day for some reason when i applied the changes my resolution changed to 320*240 window, and i couldnt get back into the options to reset it because i couldnt even see the buttons! I had to reinstal in the end, bah!
Other than this i would reccomend trying different drivers to see if that makes any difference, i imagine you may have already tried this tho :)

No need to re-install if this happens, just ensure you have a copy of the prefs file in cache first so that once you exit the game you can just copy it over the modified one.
i reported this to support but nothing back yet!
