Hello all. I'm fairly new to this game, I've played a few months (solo) and I've tried to learn as much as possible.
I have a few simple questions regarding corporations (and yes I've tried a few searches already -_-). I have noticed that there are different types of corporations, mining corporations is one of them. I've always wondered what you get in return by joining, let's say, a mining corporation. If I go out there with a couple of corporation members and mine all day and return the mined goods to the corporation HQ or wherever you dump all the ore, what's in it for me? Do I get automatically paid for doing services for my corporation or do the corporation leader or sub leaders (if that even exists) have to pay me for my services manually? How does it work? This is a big question mark for me :P.
Thanks to those who enlighten me on the subject :).

This all depends on the corporation in question, everyone has their own ways of providing for the members in ones with a Mining focus.
The most common approaches seem to be;
(a) the corp will either buy the ore you mine off you for a steady price so you don't have to worry about market fluctuations as much.
(b) the corp will put together what everyone mined, take a percentage for the corp and then split everything evenly between anyone who was actively mining at the time.
(c) the corp will take all the mined ore for production or trade purposes and pay you a 'time against yield' based wage.
It tends to vary quite a bit so you'd have to look into corporations and question their methods to find out if the style they use would suit you. I'd say in most cases you should make a profit from joining a player corporation, you could even do the same in your standard NPC corps as well since there's nothing stopping you from teaming up with people from that.

Not a problem at all. =)
Also, even if you're in a corporation you can still do things on your own. You don't always have to be working in a group, though you should benefit from it.

Be careful with mining corps mind...
Although they have the advatage that they are specialised for what you seem to want to do, a pure mining corp is unlikely to be able to defend itself when wardecced.

Similarly; don't only focus your efforts on mining. Make sure you learn about the game, game mechanics, pitfalls and possibilities.

This is the truth.
All I can add is that when you start branching out into combat ships try not to be seduced so much by the larger ships, but if you are and cannot help it train them and enjoy them.
I stuck with frigates for months and I did not even start training cruisers until I was 3+ months into the game. Then again this is only how I did it, have fun with what you are training and when you stop having fun then switch to another skill set. This is not recommend by many in the specialization fan boy sect, but what could happen is a corp tells you train the flavor of the month only for all your skills to be nerfed two patches out.
Oh yes, read, think, ask.
