I too am dissappointed with Eve PvP - I'm just not surprised.
Give people time to think about combat and they will avoid it unless they think they can win. Eve makes things worse by the simple fact that losing can hurt a lot and winning means diddly squat.
There is no offical recognition within the game for any activity. The size of the game means that the playerbase doesn't provide any recognition either. Everyone in this game is a nobody to 99% of the player base. Most MMORPGs have a rating system at least. In this game about the only thing you can do to show how good you are is fly a BS. But you can be doing that within a month or two so it proves little.
Okay so then you could suggest that to prove a point you engage in combat. Unfortunately you then run into the issue I mentioned above. Only a fool sticks around to fight when outgunned ATM.
IMO what we need is some kind of ranking system like there was in Elite. It could cover a variety of criteria and give an overall rating:
Number of kill points (more points for bigger ships) Number of mined points (more points for rare ores) Number of refine points ( - "" - ) Financial ranking (Andrue is the 12,345th richest player in the game) Average trade profit. Number of agent relationships. Average agent relationship. Number of production points (more points for more difficult items) ..plus overall rating.
Additional rankings for corporations/alliances: Number of members Member churn Number of stations held Average length of time each station is held. ..and of course averages of member rankings.
Have this information readily available in game as a score board with filtering. Now all 40k subscribers can compete against each other in public. Now I have a reason to stick around and fight.
Picture the scene.NoHawker and I are joint 78th in the kill point league and damned if I'm not going to hold my ground and try and beat him to a pulp. If he does beat me (fat chance ) then I gonna get me a bigger ship and chase him down for a rematch. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Hey, i did that on purpose man! =). I was testing my Thorax setup.
Anyway NoHawker, it's really a pain in the ass to hunt solo in a battleship anymore. Just the Warp Core stabalisers alone makes it more hastle than it's worth. You're going to have to do what all of us have to do. Get a buddy to scout/tackle. That's just how the game works now. You'll never be able to make a well equiped pilot stay where you want him to stay. The only kills you will get will be those idiots that don't know any better. Good thing there's so many of them around! It sucks, it's not as cool as it used to be (pre-low slot stabalisers), but what can you do? You need to adapt and overcome.

Personally, I love the way PvP in EVE works, warts and all. I play this MMO because of that, because it's an MMO - I'm glad that I can't do much on my own, it makes what we can do so much more satisfying.

I am surprised about this harsh responses. And I would have thought such harsh responses would come from carebears and not PvPers. As I understand NoHawker he wants to be able to PvP even if he is alone.
Who is the carebear? a.) the one who is looking for fair 1:1 combat? b.) the one who thinks he is Sun Tzu because he and his 5 friends managed to kill a lone pilot but run to safespot if equal numbers appear.
Please read my ideas on this topic: Combat Rules of Engagement

Mr NoHawker I kinda sympathis with you in that decent 1v1 battles are rare, but honestly you and many others in this thread need to realize.
EVE is not a PVP game alone. Most the people you'll meet traveling in 0.0 are in running setups because THEY DON"T WANT TO FIGHT!!
They have 6-8 miners fitted and just wanna make an isk or trade things.
If you are searching for nice 1v1 battles out in 0.0 your looking in the wrong place. The Alliance warfare is nice and pretty to see but fair fights are hardly ever held.
I personally enjoy and love PvP in EVE because I know my enemies, they know me and most the time in a 1v1 situation we fight each other fairly. I have had several arranged duels with my enemies.
Its part of the joy of RP in EvE, because 99% of us who do RP are not out to murder you with ew setups, but we enjoy fair and interesting fights.
I fly an Apoc for instance. I usually equip 7 guns and 1 defender for a battle plus my heavy armor tanking. My mid slots are mostly for my cap. If my enemy warps away then I "win" so what....
I don't need to see their ship explode to know that I won. This way is even better because the next day we can fight again because they still have a ship and have changed setup slightly, perhaps I am forced to run that day, its all situational.
If you take PVP too extreme in EVE then you are just going to burn yourself out.
To be honest I enjoy frigate and cruiser battles much more anyways, because to me BS fights are rather boring...
NoHawker if you really wanna find a new nitche in Eve perhaps you should mail me in game. I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Personally I wish battleships hadn't become so common. not many are willing to hang around and fight when they could potentially lose 100-200 mill worth of ship/mods in a few minutes as opposed to cruisers which are potentially 10-15 mill including mods. Battleships were originally meant for large fleet ops not as a do-all ship. Hell I'm even hoping they eventually remove their mining capabilities and replace it with a dedicated mining ship. Hopefully the introduction of battlecruisers and destroyers will put battleships more in the background so they can fulfill the task they are meant for.

Well, Warp Core Stabilizers are way too easy to use.
You should take a inertia hit of 25% for each one. That way the paranoid ppl can take forever to warp, but will everytime.
As for solo PvP, the days of 'honorable' warfare are long gone. Do what you need to to win.

Yes I'm just going to go on in my business of ganking. EVE isn't going to change. Too bad I also need help to force engagements even if it's too force just 1 ship. I would really like to be able to do this on my own but EVE would rather I bring a couple of friends and mob my opponents.
Mods come close this thread, I'm done
What are you going to do? I'm going to kill them all sir |

Originally by: NoHawker I'm having enough of EVE, too much BS and I don't mean Battleships. In order to catch any thing you must equip your ship with stupid toys that only serve to weaken your ship to the point that if you capture any thing your size that is half prepared for battle you lose. What kind of nonsense is this any way?
Why in EVE must one weaken his ship with modules that do nothing to enhance your combat abilities but only serve to give you a chance to capture. That means you're only real choice is to pick fights with inferior opponents such as smaller ships (cruisers) and rookie pilots.
Naval vessels today and through out history never had this problem, real world ships of war never needed to weaken their strength to detect and to engage in battles, but in EVE you need to do just that... well whatever. Basically you have little choice but to camp and gank, fine....
I wish to join a corporation that will allow me to wage war on any closed alliance and have the resources to participate in group activities to generate ISK such as high end mining and ratting. I don't want to be a pirate that kills neutrals and innocents, I just want to kill the elitist's in EVE that took it upon themselves to exploit EVE's riches and opportunity's to the exclusion of others. I don't feel guilty ganking these elitist pigs, they deserve it IMO.
I have 10.5 million in skill points, 50 million ISK, 2 Battleships and PvP experience. I would like to join a corporation who like me have no bones in killing off alliance members for fun but don't engage in pirating. If I don't find a group of people like this I'm thinking about quiting EVE, what's the point any more? EVE seems to have no room for players like me that wish to strike it out on our own and engage in competitive PvP.
If there is any corporation like this I would like to join you good people. I need the freedom, backup and resources to play how I want and yes I will contribute to the corporation as needed. EVE mail me, thank you.
Can I have your stuff.
You must suck at fighting or a corp would have already taken you. But to me you seem like an person that I would not want on my side.
GL anyways. These views are not of my Corp or Alliance its just my opinion. I not into flaming. Just re-read your message. GIVE ME OR I WILL QUIT! SEE YA
