About 2 years ago, I left Guild Wars's Ascalon City to search for the perfect MMORPG. I walked away from many years of fun and sadness--my elementist spell caster, female only guild, my dye trading business and 900k worth of gold. I was lost, lonely and depress, until I saw CCP's EVE Online in a gaming convention. My first initial impression was that this is one of those boys only game...I was one of the few girl gamers in this room. How odd... an MMO w/ no girls?
My introduction to CCP's EVE was a lot of craziness, IÆve never seen so many groups of hormone driven adolescent males flying around aiming for one thing, hate and discomfort to all. How on earth is this company making money based on ôhate, mayhem, pawning on each other?ö IMHO, the real secret to EvE, wasnÆt just about ships vs ship combat, it was the full spectrum of the game. EvE was built on FRIENDSHIP, this game is no different from any other successful MMO, such as World of Warcraft and Everquest. People log on so we can see familiar faces and do similar thingsà This is EVE Online!!
After a long struggle to find our identity within this game, a group of us small friends, created our very first Corporation, Cute and Friends and then soon afterward our own alliance, Cute Alliance. The premise was easy, we want to create a ôguildö like place for all of us to hang and enjoy each other in game. Not everyone in EvE are intense, hard-core gamersùwe have the weekend warriors, the business merchant, the 1 hour per day mine collectors and all kind of careerism. I am not sure how successful we will become; I donÆt think we will be the next BOB, GOONs or CVA. However, the fun part about MMORPG is to borrow a quote from 50 Cents, ôGet Rich or Die TryinÆö wish us luckùand have a happy flight!!!

ItÆs fun to read positive posts once in a while. Congratulations on your accomplishments and I sincerely hope that your future is bright.

And why would you not want to be near CVA? I think a lot of people have a weird miss conception of us. Efficient, laid back, friendly to neutrals, jam packed with talented people, solid leadership and the list goes onà =)

Whatever qualities CVA has it still suffers from the image problem all alliances in nullsec (and to a lesser degree alliances in general; some people just don't like the promotion of hierachy) have when a diehard empire player thinks about you. I don't want to set the world on fire |

Oh sure. When you say it in a online forum it's okay. But when I say that in a bar I get slapped and told to leave.

Male psychology is a curious thing.
I wonder if the response so far would have been as positive if it weren't for the OP being (likely?) female.
I agree, though. While EVE is a very PvP-ey game, it wouldn't be fun without corpies.
...
(This really sounds stupid coming from someone currently floating in NPC-corp limbo though.)

Edited by: Spoon Thumb on 25/11/2008 17:58:35 Eve online is unrealistic. It is skewed to make it easy for thieves, liars and killers
So the fact that anything gets done at all and the game isn't total anarchy always amazes me.
Also you don't have to be "harcore" to be in CVA, but we do make a point of picking the hard path, for the challenge and the fun of it
Edit: But yeah, I too have mastered Station Hugging V, Idleing V and am now working on Spinning Ship in Station IV

It's nice to see that there are at least a few female gamers in EvE. Its a shame that there aren't more really, but there just aren't enough fairies, pink dragons and magic wands to attract the average female gamer.
I personally consider EvE to be a thinking persons MMO. There's probably an opportunity here to comment on the percentage of girls that actually posses this ability, but I'll refrain
I see your point though, it is male dominated game that seems to posses the ability to turn even the most mature gamer into a digital prepubescent. First impressions of EvE can be off putting but once you spend a bit of time here, underneath the rough surface there's a gem of a game. I'm glad its not easy and ultra accessible, its a safe haven for all of us that feel the urge to vomit at the mention of WoW. Every time I login I feel like I'm playing and Ian M Banks novel.
Anyway, best of luck with your alliance and I hope you continue to enjoy it here. Try and get some of your friends to join from GW if you can, we could do more girls to help liven the place up a bit If one day I'm flying through space and I'm hugged to death by a giant pink teddy with laser eyes, then I'll know who to blame

Behind the unrealistic, thereÆs the moral factor of the player. First of all, most players are fairly more mature then the adverage MMO player and most resolve to diplomacy instead of pew pewing each other.
Take Fallout 3 for example. YouÆre alone playing the game and you can do whatever you want. Yet, 90% of the players will choose the good path and once in a while do a little illegal move.
The same thing happens in EVE. Most people wants to be good guys and consider their kills: ôThe bad guysö à
Also, itÆs easy to break the Anarchy. It takes one solid leader and everyone will suddenly bow down, shoot the non-believers and continue on their merry lives.
