Considering the only reason people keep the CPC in power is because they have made good on promises to keep employment and standards of living on the rise, they are going to start getting desperate.
I for one welcome the possibility of a Chinese Revolution to instate democracy, and the possibility of Tibetan independence if the UN steps in. Haruhiists - Overloading Out of Pod discussions since 2007.

Fallout in Europe and America would be sudden non existence of a state we have to pay credit to, in conjunction with massive military occupation of China.
I also see production being moved back to the respective trade blocks, USA building American products (yes, you just read that) and the EU building kit in probably Eastern Europe. Haruhiists - Overloading Out of Pod discussions since 2007.

My sig says it all. All this has happened before and will happen again.
Some years back, Indonesia turned on itself with the result of getting President Sowharto removed from office. Is came as no great surprise to those of us who were there just prior to the problems blowing up into public riots etc. At about the same time, the money speculators crashed the economy by selling Rupiah back to the country in order to make a fortune buying Rupiah again at it's vastly deflated rate. The Rupiah went from its initial 4K=1UKP to 27K=1UKP. It's still over 19K to this day so it's still recovering slowly.
Some years prior to that, Thailand was also subject to an economic crash although not so much civil unrest as a result.
Most of the Asian countries are targetted regularly by money speculators due to the volatile nature of the ecomony there and the economies are hit at an alarming rate causing a lot of the poverty you see there. This will undoubtedly blow over in time although it may spark a gov't coup as we have seen in other countries like Indonesia in the past.
Personally, I'd like to se the practice of money speculation outlawed as it causes widespread poverty and economic problems for so many people. This ultimately ripples through the economies of the world causing problems worldwide for the sole purpose of inflating a few, already bloated wallets.
It was Money speculators who hit the UK currency some years back that caused Britain to go to the Bundes Bank for support. Luckily, we were able to ride it out to some degree with the aid of the Bundes Bank but it shows that even a fairly stable economy can be hit hard by this practice. More unstable currencies like those in Asia don't stand much of a chance, even with support.

Everytime some country is going half bankrupt and has massive inflation someone is getting filthy rich off of it.
Quote: The Chinese government has also announced a ú373bn bailout to stimulate domestic growth by investing in infrastructure. However, only a fifth of the money is likely to come from central government coffers, with the rest coming from a mix of private enterprise and local government funds
And there it is.

Not a chance in hell. There is simply no cultural or historical precedent, and bar the last 100 years there hasn't even been any desire for it.

Very true, but they could opt for more of the technocracy route, sort of like Japan. Or they could go with the time-tested realistic oligarchy.
They're already an oligarchy, they just don't want admit it. So they could overthrow the CP and appoint new leaders who are only after profits, and fully acknowledge that they are, the consequences be damned, instead of doing so while saying they're all one big happy communist family and everyone wins, even if some (most) are eating their own shoes.

Greed my friend, greed.
Every cent in the world isn't enough for some. Everyone dreams of being rich but for some, when they have it, they see that there's always more to be had so they become dissatified with what they have already amassed. Bill Gates is evidence of that.
These farmers will farm as much as they can no matter what the economic situation is. -- There's a simple difference between kinky and perverted. Kinky is using a feather to get her in the mood. Perverted is using the whole chicken. All this has happened before and will happen again |
