Youngest is prolly 16 in our corp. Majority are around mid twenties. I'm one of the oldest at 30 but we may have someone in their 40s I think.

I'm 32. Must admit I've been suprised at how many older players there are in this game.
But compared to Flight Simulator, this place is a creche. Half the people that play M$ FS must be in their 60's

22 years old here, been with EVE for a year and a half..
And Necrologic, why wouldn't someone post their age? It's not like they're giving up vital info like their address, or their real names. Heh, "Hah! I finally found out XirtamVotf is 51! Now I can kill him!" bah.. lol.. Yes the Dark Lord is 51.. Though I think he's lying.. probably around 102.. Old geezer..

29 here, I think I'm young compared to some people in this game
I definitely think Eve appeals to older or more mature players. The learning curve at the start is quite high and newer players can't do the really exciting things in their first few weeks of the game. I think this dissuades the 10 year old powergamers.

No I have to disagree with you there Rodge. Eve seems to be one of the few games with enough diversity to attract players of all ages. I suspect that older players may well tend to opt more towards the space trading/mining/manufacturing careers, and the younger players towards the more combat orientated roles.
For me it's all the more power to Eve

I used to play on the Bnet servers with Blizzard games and I must say those players are more helpful than I have met so fay in Eve. Most in Eve will shoot me a laconic answer to my question. I respond kindly "thanks for your help =)" and I get back "ok". Juts take a look around, how many newbie guides are around the forums? Not too many compared to forums for Blizzard games. Sure many are in the newby channels ingame, but how many actually talk and help there? ZX81! That's going back before my time, and you're barely older than I am!
The first computer my family had was a Commodore VIC20. When I think about how amazing it was to draw those vector graphics with the Super Expander cartridge (which added a whole 3k of RAM), EVE is truly amazing.
But really, the 3D vector space is probably pretty simple. I'm sure all of the raster graphics get pasted on locally. That's why you can clip through objects; they only exist as a point in 3D space.
Okay, I'm starting to sound like a Computer Science teacher. I'd better eat my lunch and get back to work! --

23...and based on the personalities of some of the characters I've met ingame, I suspect that many players are not only older than most MMORPG populations, but that many of the females really are female :P
It seems hard to attract older players and female players, that's why it seems so unusual to me.

Well, I turned 60 in April. I joined RNAL because they assured me that they specialized in geriatric cases. Nothing to get my blood pressure into the danger zone. That's what they said, anyway. Then they hit me with that Llama Song. Luckily, I was able to find a character image that looks exactly like me. :-)

I expect to be playing mmo's, single player games bore me now, till the day I die.
What I find funny is how XBox Live, and the like, seem to give the impression they have invented online gaming. I remember modem to modem (9600 baud) Doom lagfests. ___________________________________________________ Serenity Prime Is Recruiting |

There is a corporation named "The Old Farts". I considered it but they were on the other side of the galaxy from me so I didn't pursue it very far. I believe that they have their own public chat channel. I used to play Avalon Hill board games, too. I also played several other brands, "Strategic something or other", "Game Designers Workshop", etc.

Originally by: Rodge I definitely think Eve appeals to older or more mature players. The learning curve at the start is quite high and newer players can't do the really exciting things in their first few weeks of the game. I think this dissuades the 10 year old powergamers.

I'm 16, as well. I tried World of Warcraft, was immediately put off by the complete lack of challenging features. Basically, what decided how far you got in the game was directly related to the time you put in. Whereas in EVE you have a humungous learning curve (*yum yum*), a total freedom which allows for innovative and very nutty ideas and concepts, and (compared to other MMOG's) a very, very good economy.

Maybe I am just having a bad time finding friends =(.

I'm 47. New to Eve, new to gaming. Never bothered with a computer until 1991 when an 18 year old college classmate grabbed me by the arm and made me get on the internet. :)
I'm a real girl (tm) too. :D
Runescape was my first on-line game, and despite the wicked sense of humor the game writers have, I got sick of the constant begging and other silly behaviors on the part of both kids and adults. I love the maturity level in this game. :) It defies age.

ROFL . . . nice self portrait!
40 here, but feel and act like I'm 19 most days . . . except the hangovers hurt a lot more now

Well, I turned 60 in April. I joined RNAL because they assured me that they specialized in geriatric cases. Nothing to get my blood pressure into the danger zone. That's what they said, anyway. Then they hit me with that Llama Song. Nearly put me in the hospital. Luckily, I was able to find a character image that looks exactly like me. :-)

Edited by: Sandreon on 19/08/2006 16:00:35 I'm 19, almost 20. This seems to be slightly lower than the average age of Eve players. What a nice change to WoW, hehe. |

38 here. I can't imagine not playing video games. My first comp was a Vic20...now I'm depressed *sighs* Just made my account the other day. My husband has been playing almost a year now. Nice to see a mature community in a game though. That's what drew me to it, besides the fact my husband won't play any other game with me. It is a beautiful game. I'm in love. My first computer was a 8080 CPU that I wire-wrapped myself. First 'Real' PC was a Sinclair ZX80 connected to the TV, displayed 20 characters a line and have a whole 1K of RAM!
