press esc, disabled eve voice, restart client. that should fix your issues (assuming you don't use eve voice)

Edited by: elliott cable on 29/11/2008 10:54:55 Here's what I'm getting from a debug-launch of cider:
2008-11-29 01:47:45.176 cider[73435:10b] Error reading affiliate.plist:The file ôaffiliate.plistö does not exist. dyld: Symbol not found: _wine_casemap_upper Referenced from: /Applications/EVE Online.app/Contents/Frameworks/../Frameworks/libwineserver.dylib Expected in: dynamic lookup
So, we have some missing files going on.
This is what I get *after* running the revert described. Before the revert, there will be a single dock icon appearing when I attempt to launch EVE (not two, as per the usual for an EVE launch), and it will just à sit there. One icon. Indefinitely. It's not "frozen" (not responding, as according to the Mac OS X force quit dialog), it just doesn't à do anything. The second icon doesn't appear, no EVE window appears, nothing. It terminates immediately when I send it a force quit signal, I don't have to send it two or three as I do with crashed programs normally.
I really need to switch my training over, at least. Can us mac'ers please have our EVE back?

Actually I noticed that you don't need to reboot your client while disabling the eve voice. It seems that the keyboard comes back from death after a while when you disable the voice. Of course it could have been the alt-tab swithing too, which still doesn't "show" anywhere.
If i don't have any sounds on...i wouldn't even know i have eve running...hmm..perfect boss protection though... Stop whining. |

Disabling EVE voice seems to have solved the keyboard issue. Thanks for that pointer.

Well, only issue I have so far is my computer is trying to cook itself. I'm assuming this is either the 18xx or 19xx version of Cider as I did not revert back to 14xx patch.
Running 81-83¦C at 5500 RPM where I used to run 70¦C at about 4000 RPM on my fans.
Does reverting to 14xx still work for you folks? (I don't like running my temps at >80¦ in a laptop with an nVidia GPU... )

There is ***STILL*** a memory leak. Just playing for a couple of hours and the client slowly cobbles up all available resources.
When ffs are you going to fix this CCP?!

I am genuinely shocked. I'm using the more recent version of cider, and yet... no framerate issues. In fact, no significant problems at all. Wha happen?

Seems that I have all "minor" problems at once: -Keyboard freezes if voice is activated. Even the esc key is not working. -Selecting a ship in the overview changes the view into "look at". This is not happening with wrecks. Very disturbing in combat missions. -The computer is getting really hot. 75 C CPU 1, 81 C GPU Diode. Even the cooling fan tab I bought yesterday doesn't help.
I am using: MacBook pro 17, 2 GB Ram, GeForce 8600M GT

Edited by: ariel jade on 01/12/2008 03:52:24 when I installed the latest client my imac was experiencing the same issues it was before. turns out I had to remodify the conf file again.
Still have the same issues with the Minmatra external views of the station are not all there in my 15" MBP, it doesn't matter which of the two graphic chips I use.
I have finally gotten XP installed on my MBP with BootCamp. I my end up using bootcamp to play the game when I cannot get to my iMac at home.

I'm not sure how much it helps anybody, but I'd like to point out that the culprit in the EVE Voice problem is the system - `kernel_task` (the null PID process) jumps to 100% processor usage after a while with EVE Voice enabled. That's what's causing the RAM leakage and keyboard problems (kernel_task must be responsible for handling keyboard input as well).

Edited by: Thebro Nobrunder on 02/12/2008 00:18:47 I'm still broken. Currently in "slow" correspondence with support. the client randomly crashes on startup. When it does connect it will crash if I do anything.
so far I've applied the revert patch, deleted cache and settings, and installed from scratch.

I have played EVE on my MacBook Pro 15inch for exactly a year now (entire time I've been subscribed). Recently with QR I decided to install it within my Parallels Desktop (virtual pc) on my MacBook Pro. It worked fine and was more stable than the Mac version running on cider; but the performance was not good enough for fleet battle (yes I tested it with in a fleet battle with hundreds of ships and the overview couldn't refresh fast enough for me to target anything, or to see that I was primaried). After experiencing the Mac client gradually degrade in quality over the last year and with the sharp dip in quality recently and the priority for CCP to focus on Windows first, I'm going to bite the bullet and install Windows on one of my desktops. I doubt CCP have enough human resources to properly support a Mac client and Mac/Linux will always be a "second class" client. I don't mind having a dedicated Windows desktop for EVE; regardless of how much I loath Windows.

Edited by: Commander Excelsior on 04/12/2008 14:17:10 NO !!! i don't want to downgrade Oo
ok feedback : - Yeah pretty disturbing bug when eve voice is active. back to normal when leaving audio channels. - Graphicals bug (like shields etc...) but solution has been given (change resolution back and forth)
Now the specials things - Eve at 200% cpu ? i've a macpro 1 (4cores) and sometimes (got menumeters) i see 50-50-45-55 cpu load : investigating the trick : i see Eve app at 105% as usually (and taking my dear ram) and, SOMETIMES (not always) Wine_Server at 100% cpu (usually at 0.1% cpu before)
is that a bug? an infinite loop ? or a turbo mode like old X86 architecture ;D
really, i saw nothing different in game at idle (docked, empty space, 40-70 fps) BUT, i have the feeling that when i'm in trouble (small fleet, many-many-many objects in space like Complexes or lvl 4) framerate is just pretty fine (to me, it's over 15fps^^) So, where's the trick?
- Sometimes : mouse wheel change camera from in-space to solar map and universe map. (zoom in-out) never saw this before.
- Warcraft Bug : Please don't stealth bugs from WoW. Especially the Bugged Monsters ie : at 150km from the center of a deadspace mission, Killing pocket 1 on my tail, poket 2 took aggro (ok, why not) from 150km. They were focused on my drones (focused on the last ship in group 1), so i decided to retrieve them back and fire missiles on foes. (Pocket 2 reached 20km from me) when the last drone returned, Magic lag (1second) and.... Pocket 2 reset. (back at 150km) with all wrecks around me (from pocket 1) One of them had damaged armor... hum, strange bug, isn't it?
-crash sometimes (as usually :D )
Keep working guys, nothing lost :D Good work
Edit : oh sorry, macpro 1.1 w/ 2Gb Ram, Os 10.5.4. Eve on 3-Raid HD |

Aaaaaaand just like that, I'm back to being completely unable to launch EVE. After my last fiasco with it, right after the update, I finally got it running, and it was working just peachy. Crashing even less than it had been before.
However, over the last two or three days, it has started escalating back to it's original point of crashing every few minutes, and after the latest crash about thirty minutes ago, I've been unable to get it to launch at all. I've wiped everything related to the game from my computer entirely; I've re-installed three different versions of the game that I still have in my Downloads folder; I've applied each of the revert patches to each of the versions, no matter what I do, EVE doesn't ever actually launch with any visible window or anything.
Just that goddamned mother****ing icon, sitting in the dock, laughing it's mother****ing ass off at me, saying "BWAHAHAHA I'M PRETENDING TO LAUNCH, HAHAHA YOU CAN'T PLAAAAAAAYYYYY MEEEEEE"!!!!!1!1!11!
Okay, so, yeah. I get a bit crazy when denied my EVE.

Hope you have longs skills
I've also had something similar. Not so much that it wont launch at all, but from time to time it doesn't. I thought it would be the memory leak so that you had to reboot and go again, but that doesn't really seem to do anything helping. Sometimes it launches and sometimes it doesn't.
I just hope this gets fixed soon. Although in the past we have usually gotten updates on the situations (mostly for us to give more feedback and reports on the issue that is believed to be the cause) and now it's rather silent. So, either they have no clue what is causing or nobody is yet working on it on full priority.
Just as a sidenote, I have feeling the client is getting worse day by day (i don't mean patches, i mean literally). I'm getting more jiggynes from the client than the day it got installed. They keyboard problem and overall lag of the client is getting worse. Not sure if a re-install would do the trick, but....there is definitely something wrong with the client (or cider). Stop whining. |
