We all know the 10km thing is crap. And I hope it's fixed soon. Just make smartbombs not activate for 10 seconds after cloak.. Like the targeting.
But uh.. This cloud thing is total crap. You should be able to cloak INSIDE the clouds. Not this must be away from the clouds stuff. That is the suck.

I agree on this point, the fact that anything in space other than emtpy space can decloak you is rediculous.
Only ships/stargates/stations/sentries should decloak you.
the fact that a rocket or a cloud or jet can can stop you cloaking and de-cloak you is bad imo.

This is still a bit of an issue so I hope to revive this topic. To date we've made changes to the game that allow a cloaked ship to remain cloaked around most things with exception to objects that should obviously dectect a cloaked ship is it is close enough. However the one thing that still continues to lack explination is why should the cloak mysteriously shut off when you get near a gas cloud. If anything the cloud should be a benefit to a cloaked ship and serve as a hiding place. My chief complaint is that the mission writters have used the gas clouds to effectively disable the use of cloaks in many missions. Even in such missions as Recon (1 of 3) a distinctly COVOPS type mission. Surely this type of mission could be completed using a cloak to get you through the gate if you so choose to do it that way. Instead, we find that even when attempting to fly way around the cloud you still magically get decloaked because you can't see how far the clouds boundaries actually go. If you think about it logically there is no reason why a cloud should decloak a ship, unless it has some magical spacial warping effect comming from it's inert gas particles. There is also no real advantage over other players gained by not having gas clouds effect cloak. Therefore, to make the system a bit more logical and broaden the methods for completing certain missions I would like to see this issue fixed. Other opinions welcome, and thank you to anyone that takes a look at this. While we are at it we also need to make rats in all cases actually adhere to targeting range when moving beyond their max target range. To test that one I once flew something like 4 to 500km away from a group of mission rats only to see that even after they stopped chaseing me long ago and returned to their positions they continued to hold locks on my ship and fire missiles and guns at me that would never hit. (except for the missile effects did hit my ship even though the missiles died long before they got to me.)

Necroooooo! Bring the holy water!
:P
Anyway, as far as I know, (most) missions are structured to prohibit you from using stargates until all the enemies in that stage are killed. If you try to use the gate before that, it will just say something on the lines of "a gate inhibitor is equipped on every ship of the group that owns this gate. You will have to destroy them all to reactivate this gate".
So cloaking or not you will want to fight those enemies and a covops isn't the best ship to do that anyway.

There are gates in Low-Sec and 0.0 where there's clouds surrounding them. Regular gates between systems that is.
Not beeing able to cloak after jumping through into them is not what I expect to happen. Especially not, if those gates are camped alot, due to this phenomena. .
