shuttle. It can effectively escape 0.0 rats, usually. _______________

I can kill BS ratts in my Blarpy with weak gunnery skills. Just try to be smart about it. Don't fly directly toward any rats until you are ready to jump into an optimal orbit. Try not to bump into things.. It could ba a short adventure. Otherwise... It is pretty easy. Never tried it in a T1 frig though.

its possible in a punisher even with weak laser skills. i tried it against a 800k BS when i started playing.
PS: it did take the BS 40 min to die though^^

Mate of mine and I went co-op ratting in a wolf/harpy combo...harpy took the aggro and got into a tight orbit around the bigger ships while the wolf took on the small ships to effectively neuter any real damage. Dunno about solo, my wolf was alright so long as you could take out the frig/dest. rats quickly

to be blunt, a HAC is the best for ratting as far as DPS, tankabilty and mobility (in case of a roaming gank) and it cost about the same fitted as a standard ratting BS.
I rat in an Artie Muninn myself (kiting serpentis rats with phased plasma), and with a Cerb on my alt when he needs isk (vs Guristas). It all really comes down to what rats you are going for.
Zealots are also really nice since they don't need ammo and have great dps, but only to rats with weak EM resists.
The best ratting ships/fits have as much gank as possible against the rats weakest resists while having just enough buffer/tank to be able to survive long enough to pop the rats and warp to the next belt to rinse and repeat.
The people in ravens with perma running undersized shield boosters are doing it wrong. Again, IMHO.

I've gone ratting against Serpentis rats using an ishkur, ishtar, phobos, nemesis (that was interesting, very glad remote damps. work on rats), bellicose, stabber, harbinger, myrmidon, eos, ferox, moa, caracal, and I think a few others.
Most of them worked out fairly well but a few just stank. Well, one stank, the stabber. It took forever and a day to kill anything and after one kill I had to warp out. The caracal just wasn't all that effective even compared to the nemesis. Yes, I found a stealth bomber more effective at ratting in 0.0 than a cruiser. Of course said stealth bomber also had a setup based more on electronic warfare than shield tanking (2 remote dams and a painter) and stayed way the heck out of blaster range, but still.
Really thoguh, depending on where you rat I'd have to say that the smallest ship class you can effective rat in is the frigate class with the ishkur being perhaps one of the absolute most effective. In terms of "smallest" of combat power I'd say a stealth bomber is probably as low as you want to go and then only because of the range of cruise launchers giving you an advantage over the rats. I can't fly an interceptor so I wouldn't know how well they work but I'd have my doubts.
The smallest optimal ship for ratting, however, would likely be a heavy assault ship. They've got the firepower, speed, and agility to kill or run as the situation warrants. A recon ship like the curse would probably run a very close second since the ship can manage very good combat power as well, though I'm not terribly sure I'd suggest using a force recon, however, though if you do the pilgrim might be about the best choice.
Of course the biggest problems with most heavy assault ships is the low to lack of ability to salvage when you're done killing stuff. If this is a serious problem you should examine the ishtar or, if the fitting capacity of the ishtar is entirely too limiting for you, look at using a myrmidon or even, if you don't mind the risk/cost of it, an eos. ____________________

Recently used a Retribution and a Vexor to go from -10 to -2... used Sansha space. It wasn't hard at all, but it took a while.
I would have happily used a pulse Zealot if I had Amarr cruiser V.

stealthbomber , but its not very practical and time efficient. a vexor would be a good choice for being cheap and would only need good drone and average armor skills to kill sanchas and some others. i wouldn't go for the smallest ship tbh rather an good balanced ship that is balanced between agility, damage, tank and value to fit your 0.0 situations needs. and of course it depends on your skills. ------------------------------ Q: what happens when an EVE player quits EVE to play WOW A: the Average IQ of both goes up |

Edited by: Radcjk on 30/11/2008 00:15:36 Edited by: Radcjk on 30/11/2008 00:15:02 HAC's I've found to be the best for my isk / hour ratio.
AF's are splendid for ratting in hostile territory, are relatively cheap to replace, and more often than not can get away from people attempting to hunt you down.
Taranis and some other harder hitting (relative, I know) interceptors will bork your isk / hour ratio, but are just great bouncing from system to system trying to bring sec status back up.
Against Serpentis rats t1 cruisers like the thorax, vexor, ruppie, and even pve fitted blaster moas do fine. Guristas rats I find to be a little more difficult with a t1 cruiser, as they tend to ecm and spit out missiles that must be tanked and cant just 'fly under the guns' of larger ships.
No idea on other NPC types, as I've spent much of my time in serpentis or gurista filled space.
edit: spelling.

Edited by: Benco97 on 30/11/2008 00:22:12 I tried taking out some NPC mega whilst in a reaper once, I believe that given enough time I may have gotten bored and wandered off (I couldn't beat his regen) but as it happened I simply ran out of ammo instead. He just couldn't hit me for some reason. This was about 4 years ago I think.
Anyway, moral of the story, don't try to solo Battleships in rookie ships.

I've gotten away with using a blasteranis to take on BS ships in 0.0.
You might be able to take on the BCs and if you're lucky the cruisers in that ship, but don't push your luck. It's best to kill the BS and get out before the frigates and cruisers gun you down.
It's a good ship for the job, though. You keep an eye on local and make sure no one gets the jump on you, and you can get out fast. The trade-off is that it takes a bit longer to kill the BS rats (slightly negated by tech II blasters).

BCs work essentially as well as HACs for ratting.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

Shuttle assigned with fighters?
The assault frigates and T1 cruisers can make passable ratters.
HACs are the best in the term of firepower/mobility
