We had problems in our Database server earlier tonight, which led to this unscheduled reboot of Tranquility.
Small summary:
We noticed that one of our in-game services was bringing calls to the db, that were very heavy on CPU usage, so we tried to stop that by changing the procedures affected by this, but that did not solve the problem.
The problem just got worse and resulted in nodes starting crashing, so we took the decision to take Tranquility down and fix the problem.
Tranquility is now up and running again, and problem is solved.

Scheduled downtime every day between 11:00 and 12:00 GMT
Todays downtime extended for 20 minutes due to Database failover, Tranquility will be back online at 12:20 GMT

delete myPtr;

Like purplecake I was creating a contract at the time of the server decided to barf and lost what is to me a high value item. Just looking at the system I am in I see a lot of contract that are missing the items so I can only imagine how many must be in a system like Jita.
I petitioned it as soon as the server was rebooted and I seen the problem still existed. I guess that was a bad idea on my part as I am sure many filed a petition for this before mine.
Anyway I don't suppose those of us with items lost to the contract system during this server failure could get a response from CCP in regards to how long resolving these problems might take?

No need to set back to null if its at the bottom of a function :) And in most cases, you DO want to check for null; I almost always define pointers with = NULL at the start to determine if a value has been set or not. Known initial state FTW!
Oh I know what you are saying -- of course delete works with null pointers, but I picked up the habbit of checking due to my adventures in pascal and friends.

Wish i knew what you "fixed" in that dt again but lag is just unbearable, you literally cant do anything in fleets now. Thats it for stackless whatever. Yesterday (sunday) with 40k people on the server we had beautiful lagless huge fleet fights thru multiple systems and today the game is not playable.

I liked your downtime. I was mining in an exploration belt and had mined about 250K units of ore. When the server came back, all the roids that I had mined had reappeared and I was able to mine them again

If many people had the problem, then I guess it's more likely that the missing items will be returned. However, I guess there will be a backlog of petitions so there may be a long wait.
Very stressful though having a large portion of assets suddenly sitting in the Concord lost and found when I was only transferring items between my characters. I had to distract myself instead of playing Eve yesterday so I would stay calm.
Hopefully everything will be okay when they get around to my petition.
