Currently training to fly a Crusader. How fast do I need to get this puppy going for some decent survivability?
I'm currently clocking about 4.3k/s in a straight line. I know I need to be moving faster... but how much faster?

The standard right now is 5 km/s or faster.
Crusader can make about 5.5 km/s without implants.

My Taranis goes around 3.5K M/S. With higher skills it probably could get around 3.7-4K would be my guess-timations.
On a side note for survivability in this patch signature radius became more of an issue than before. A small ship can survive much better against larger ships by utilizing their sig radius. Before it was all about speed, now it's a more balanced combination of speed/sig.
Be smart about flying your interceptor and you will keep it alive, if you just think flying an inty is point, aim, orbit. You are in for a rude awakening.
PS: Guys please please please look up what transversal velocity is and use it to your advantage. IE: don't let a sniper boat take you out because you thought it would be a good idea to go straight at him.

It has always been that way,
My first leason with my crow was doing that, I when straight at a Typoon and got pop in one hit. I thought that going 6.5 would safe me, but you learn fast.
What I want to know is it possible to use a afterburner now on the Interceptors or does it still need the MWD?

I suggest never putting an AB on an inty. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |

Well they get MWD sig radius bonus now, so you would be forfeiting that. IIRC your sig rad is somewhere in 60' and 70's with MWD on. From my personal experience AB ceptors were always applicable, though quite risky business. With present webs i'd suppose its easier than back then, though they dropped the passive signature radius bonus. |

Not about speed now guys, you'll have to do some mighty fine flying, if you want to continue with long range + speed.
Overload and warp scram makes your paper thin ceptor dead meat to a ranis / sader / claw.

I messed around for a minute with an AB on my crusader for a minute with my drake alt. From what my very limited messing around shows me, it's not a good idea. I was taking about the same damage, but moving much slower. In terms of tank the 'lowered speed' equals and cancels out the 'lower sig rad.' It just makes it harder to get position and range. Not a very good thing for a ship primarily used to tackle.
Perhaps there is a possibility this would be useful if you are having tracking problems? That's about all I can see it being good for and that's reaching.

Yeah, intys aren't that FAST anymore, but I do feel they are faster now than ever when compared to other shipclasses. Me like it.
Also...straight line means NOTHING! It's how fast you can maintain speed when cornering. Learn manual zig zag. The only way to fly. With QR anything that has been designed to catch light ships...will catch you. Although anything that hasn't...heehehh...won't
It's amazing how many think that they WON'T be facing a frig. Stop whining. |

Crusader will do 5.5 km/s flat out with perfect skills, 3 OD's, a Nanofiber, or 4 OD's, and a MWD.
May not be the best fit currently but it is possible.
