I like smack talk as much as the next person, but I think if you just get pwned in several battleships, the rest of your fleet warps off, (fast movers) then you come back in your carrier and it almost gets popped before you dock up, smacking in local by you just seems, well lacking etiquette.
I understand pre-fight smack, smack by the winners, smack when winning _vs_ greater odds/numbers. But smacking when pwned almost completely. Just seems well pointless.
Thoughts on smack etiquette ?

people will smack no matter what, even when horribly owned they will smack about how they have a moral victory or how long it took you to kill them or whatever, I usually just minimize local and let them whine away

I don't usually smack - corp policy, and one I agree with.
Still, every so often, something comes along that just requires it. Like a little scrap I had with a megathron-flying war target in Dodixie the other night. I wound up posting his absolutely pathetic volley hits in local. (his best was 296.1 damage).
Given that he was slinging enough smack for a whole corporation, I felt it was justified.

Smack in general is pointless, but the smack the high sec pvp corps throw after wardecing and popping miners, is priceless and I talk from the miner's point of wiew. There's nothing sadder than seeing a bunch of high sec wannabe PvPrs think they can actually PvP.

I don't do smacktalk because it's alliance policy not to, but before I was in Sylph I enjoyed alittle smacktalk. There is a difference though between alittle smack and being a complete ideot. I used to smack alittle just to wind folks up, make them do a stupid mistake, lose morale, smack back with epic quotes etc.
However when someone starts swearing like someone with torrets or whatever its called is just sad and retarded. Also telling folks how crap they are just after they have relieved you from your ship makes you look like a complete fool.

For some reason.. i feel that i might kno who it is that you are talking about. And I have to agree, he should have kept his mouth shut the last few times we got into it. But when it comes down to it, im sure you can cope with the talking in local... especially with his shiny corpse in your hangar!!

people have smacked me alot in local for not fighting bad odds i just say nice things back, they get more annoyed,,once in a 7v1 situation, i then undock and proceed to kill 4 of them before the rest deagro and dock, i then lightly smacking saying somthing like "way to show me" or somthing light but hard hitting like that, gives me a laugh :)

Yeah I am sure you know, I just thought it out of place to smack after that fact. Just seemed weird. Like that scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail, where he's fighting the black knight and he cuts all his arm and legs off and the guy is still smacking.  Oh I can cope with it ok, out of place is all. Yeah that corpse is quite a trophy.

Course I don't get the mentalilty of War-dec'ing for the sake of war-dec'ing as we where a new corp then.
Course in spite of that.... we got the rug pulled out from under us and lost everything anyway.

smacking sometimes makes your opponents do many stupid things. My favorite example was the gank dread we baited out of the station. Then about 15 min later we baited him in undocking in a second one and then going into siege. Unfortunatly he self-destructed before he finally popped. Smack has its purpose, just don't get ****ed when somone does it to you.

Don't talk in local at all, except to:
1) Say "GF", "o7" or something short and sweet to indicate respect for foes, whether you won or lost.
2) Yell at noncombat people in your corp/alliance that you know are not safe, but you hope might be watching local.
3) Tell other people to stop smacking in local.
