... so I'm looking into getting a 'Ceptor. Big question is: Which one? Choices are everything but Amarr (sadly, because those are most sexy;) And looking at the bonuses, I'd exclude the Crow as well since my missile skills pale in comparison with Gunnery. Leaves 5 ships to pick from.
Which one is best, given the fact that being a gang's tackler will probably not be my major occupation? I'm somehow tempted to get a Taranis, but most setups that I've found make use of short range guns which I understand might lead to a very sudden explosion of said ceptor. So what would you use for solo roaming incl. FW pvp and low/zero sec ratting? As in: I'm looking for versatility. Opinions, please. thx.

couple of notes: Discount the crusader and malediction at your own peril. Pulse 'saders track almost everything, throw two TE2s, in the lows, or rig it and those pulse lasers land more than they miss. Tanked rocket maledictions arent harmless. They provide a nice surprise to most ceptors. Taranis is what you watch out for there.
That said, the taranis is widely regarded as the most combat capable ceptor (though it has its weaknesses). If you do go Taranis, consider the rail-ranis for both tracking and range. The ares runs fast. Yep. It runs. Its a great little ceptor, but takes a specialist to dogfight with. Crow is the choice for missile ceptors, but you've already bombed them. The minmatar interceptors don't get brought up all that much, but you can always go for the plate-Claw. Comic win, there.

I'd say either a tanaris with rails or a crusader with pulses would be the best. Crusader has better all around versatility though as you can fit beams and get decent range as well. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

Edited by: Vanthropy on 02/12/2008 18:54:07 i like my plate claw, if you're a really risky pilot, you can get a ton of ceptor kills.
i love my ranis, it's risky too, but not quite as risky... see with the claw, if you don't kite properly.. you die even easier than the ranis. "SPEED + GANK = SPANK... Spank that ***** up" |

If you only choose one, go Taranis. It's so good right now it's frightening.
Blaster-fit: Massive dps, scram + web = target going nowhere. Most guns can't track you in close orbit, larger missiles do pitiful damage. Small neuts and t2 light drones are your enemy.
Rail-Fit: Decent damage, enough tracking to gun down other 'ceptors, fast enough to kite short-range af's. Fit a tracking disruptor and you're gold against longer range frigs and faster tracking med turrets. Light missiles and drones are bad for you.
Either Way: It's the only 'ceptor that can carry drones. This is win in so many ways. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

The crow, however, is still probably the easiest ceptor to fly, can apply its damage with no regard to the speed its going.
The taranis would be my pick if you are a bit ballsy, nice mean little ship there.

the only ceptors worthwhile vs other ceptors these days is the malediction and taranis. The sader isn't half as good now that locus rigs are nerfed and so its range. My advice is to go gallente. In fw you get a lot of ceptor pilots and most of them are dumb. Fit blasters and duel web and you'll kill them by the barrelfull. If this bothers you it is still real effective with rails, and the ares is a perfect tackler ceptor.

Just keep in mind...
... close range orbit = no MWD for you if they have the 9km Scrams onboard.
Bit of a gamble. Granted, they won't be MWD'ing either when you hit them with your scrambler, but they might not care as long as they can hit you.
Just a thought.
I like my pulse-sader though. 12-14km range, hits anything at even at full throttle, mixed with great agility.

I fly a Rail-Ranis,Alot,Even more since the patch.
And I've gone against a sader/Crow And came on top. (Close fight)
Still good Dps. Better then a Crow. Just more risky. (That's what it's all about right?)
Even got a poor fitted BC Kill.
I think I'ts one of the best ceptors.. You can go for Close range fighting(Like Frigate v Frigate fighting) Or Mid-Range (14-17km) And Leave if I't gets to risky.
I recommend it to anyone.

Sader is king at the moment. There has been a couple nasty ranis that have given me a run for my money, but nuffin's beat my current fit yet.

This is a tad bit off topic. BUt im really really liking using mt Sentinel as Inty...B4 people blast me and say its not a inty Very tru..Very very tru. With a Sens booster and a scan res script i get like almost a 1200 scan res.. It Neuts out to 18kmand drones are its DPS. 1v1 in a Inty fright i fell pretty good about this. 1v1 the neut will kill the other inty cap=no mwd and the td means guns will not hit.
On topic I like the Stiletto If its pure tackle.. For Pwnage a Sader/Crow.. If u brave a plate claw is still fun but risky.. --Yarring in a system near you--

But maybe you wanna ask yourself what do you want to do with your interceptor? All of them got their own neat tricks. You could also fly all of them, crosstraining and specializing small stuff wont take that long. |

Yeah, a Sader might be nice too. Alas, my skillpoints so far in anything Amarr, exactly: 0. But I think I had those to the list...

Edited by: Sean Faust on 03/12/2008 16:28:27 Pick any of the ceptors that can do 250+ DPS while having a decent buffer tank and you're gold. That means Taranis and...
Yeah.
EDIT: Taranis also rules in 1v1 Inty duels, although it sucks when you tell your opponent to hold up 1 sec while you alt tab out to put on some cool music to duel by, alt tab back and youre webbed, scrammed, and at half armor...

Definitely the Taranis!
Just choose your targets wisely and you'll have lots of fun.

The Taranis for sure and remember you've always got the Ares with Gal too, which is truly epic for tackling!
