Edited by: Ruban Retail on 02/12/2008 18:04:14 What do people think are the current game beakers for new and existing players and do we think anything should be done to fix them? Or are these a good way to weed out those who will never be happy with the freedom EVE allows.
Couple of suggestions from me:
1)Losing everything you own in a foolish market deal e.g. selling your mission ship for a few hundred ISK 2)Losing skill points because you thought it was safe to make it a couple of jumps without a active clone.
IĈm wondering how many pilots we have lost along the way because they could not face starting again. What other game breakers are there?

I'll have a go with; jumping through a gate and then instanty logging to avoid dieing. (after shooting+being shot at) |

People quit over those things? Pretty tame considering how many people load billions into a t1 industrial and get ganked. Now that will cause a ragequit.

Tons of things can be honestly.
Easiest thing that comes to mind is a patch that prevents 1 or 2 from happening. Parrots, commence!

Most game breaking for me:
Logging off at gates to avoid camps. Macro mining/ISK selling. (I know these are strictly against the EULA but CCP seem to only ban macros when there is irrefutable evidence that they are macros, and even then it's somewhat random) Risk/reward imbalances making low-sec worthless and empire more profitable than some areas of 0.0. This topic.

Some game breakers that come to mind for individuals are: - An alliance or corporation you lead for a long time collapsing - Burn-out from being consumed by alliance or corp responsibilities - Being a mission runner and maxing out your standings with multiple factions - Having a game mechanic change without warning and losing (all) your assets
Things that would break the game: Homogenising anything to a single market or reduces distance; with differentiated no geography, Eve is 5000 almost identical environments, whether it be trade, contracts, travel, couriers, combat, jump bridges etc.

You will now go make a podcast, or I shall give you a very cute kitten and then smash it to death with a large hammer.
Ninja Edit: Garmon getting banned is a big game breaker.

Lost 2 months worth of skills due to 1 before. I always thought I'll warp out instantly in pod so I'm not worried and there were no stations to buy a clone from at the place I was in lowsec for about 5 jumps. I didn't think about the massive camp I walked into that would make my controls lag to hell so I couldnt do anything however.
At least I've never done number 2 though.
I think the biggest risk would be trading all your worldly possessions between alts in station through window trade, but to accidently click to trade with the wrong character somehow, who the person on the other end glady accepts all your stuff for 0 isk. I'm so scared of doing this I double check, then triple check then quadruple check and I still feel nervous clicking the ok button.
General game breaking stuff I would also mention is the very linear nature of the universe where all travel is along pretty narrow pathways, you don't get the idea of being free in an open universe, more like being stuck in sewer pipes and the fact all combat takes place at the gates really, I find the whole logistics system behind Eve seems a bit screwed.

I initiate the trade from the receiving character. No room for mistakes there. -

Edited by: Ruban Retail on 02/12/2008 23:46:14 OK they are not "game breakers" but they are things that may cause new players to be turned away from the game rather than learn from their mistake. For the record I've managed both 1 and 2 and am still flying
I suppose what I'm asking is are there areas where we (CCP) could do more to save new players from their own stupidity?

Saving ppl from their own stupidity is called "enabling stupidity". It just causes more stupidity. Just ask any aging liberal hippie douche how the government housing projects are working in Detroit.

Edited by: Benco97 on 03/12/2008 00:58:42 Buying a ship and in your excitement you click "Trash" instead of unpack. I KNOW a pop-up comes up but when I'm excited I just think "Of COURSE I want to unpack it, Durr..".
Proceed directly to rage. Whilst enraged buy another ship and trash it AGAIN because you were so angry about trashing the previous one that you weren't paying attention.
I love EVE.
edit- Though this isn't a game breaker, I just felt it'd be funny to mention alongside things which annoy other players. In the end though, it's all my fault so it's ok.
