Maller: Tank Omen: Gank Arby: mix of tank/gank + tracking disruptors
They honestly are all perfectly serviceable cruisers.
Maller's make great bait and heavy tacklers. Use a MAR/800mm combo for endurance and a 1600mm plate alone for short high intensity fights. The damage with FMP is underwhelming, but you can tank like mofo and can still often spare a low-slot for a HS to help with dps. HP pulses are gonna be a pain to fit and will force you to compromise your tank.
The Omen is a cheap gank cruiser. Fit it with HP and dcu for maximum dps or downgrade to FMP to fit a decent buffer tank that will afford you some survivability while still doing more dps than a Maller.
The Arbitrator is a odd ship in many respects, its an Amarr drone ship that doubles as an EWAR platform. All other EWAR ships are lacking in tanking and damage dealing. But Arby can do a respectable job at both while still fulfilling its EWAR role. You won't be able to slug it out as well as a pure combat cruiser, but your EWAR more than makes up for that. With good skills a single TD can seriously degrade a gunship's ability to hit anything, and 2 TDs will practically shut it down. Catch is that you need to spread out your SP to maximize your potential, but its worth it in the long run.
I'd play with all three and use whatever is most relevant to a given situation. You won't need the Arby's EWAR if your gang has 3 Blackbirds. Likewise, an omen is redundant in gang full of thoraxes and a Maller won't fit in with frigate centric fleet.

What about the augoror? That's a good cruiser for feeding your enemies cap as they shoot you and your pals.

Youd think a cruiser giving out cap could be useful in a rr gang for a low sp char, but it is absolutely impossible to fit any sort of useful setup on that cruiser. -

My point is that arbitrator is alot more valuable in gang pvp then an omen. The distances at wich cruiser sized battles occur is no match for valkyrie speeds tbh. Add the TDs wich mess up even battleship turrets and you got a winner. Ofc if you like laser pewpew I can see why you pick omen. I've flown omen for lulz aswell when I wanted a cheap pewpew ships with laser show but it still sucks. Doesn't change that.
It sucks, but it's not quite as bad as everyone thinks it is. It does need pretty high skills to make it worthwhile though and by the time a pilot has those they could (and should) really be in a Harb or a Zealot if they want a laser boat. I like it, anyway <3

HPL + RCU II + MWD for maximum DPS but requires high skills, FMP II + DC + tracking mods for most people, if you actually want to put on an 800mm plate you'll probably have to do something terrible like fit Quad Light Beams because the Omen really does have absolute garbage for fitting. Kind of sucks having your "gank" cruiser be one of the low-teir combat cruisers :( __________________________________

Yeah, our other cruiser do suck azz.
Nothing wrong with a highly skilled Omen in pvp. So long as you are content to only do DPS, you'll be fine.

Maller has a much better and bigger passive tank than the arbi, enough to chew through a repping setup over time. Plus drones are popable, what happens when i tank your dps for a good minute while i pop your drones? infact you can fit a tank that will take you anywhere up to 6/7 minutes to chew through (depending on skills ofc). while consistantly spewing out 250 dps that cannot be reduced effectively if you are within web range.
One TD with tracking script from the arbi and the maller wont be able to hit crap even when webbed.
Arbitrator > Maller
TD wont matter, you'll be dual webbed if maller knows what he is doing, and hell be hitting for full dmg

Arbitrator is awesome.
It's versatile. It's cheap. It can perform many roles (solo, tackle, dps etc)
Requirement is Drones V and Cruiser IV at minimum though.
There's dozens of ways to fit an Arbi and most perform well. I personally prefer a "Gimp Curse" variant, relying mostly on drones for DPS and fittings for tank/tackle.
I've run it with Dual Neuts in the highs which lets you pretty much drain the entire cap from frig-size ships in one alpha strike (except Amarr frigs which have larger cap pools).
The dronebay is huge, so you can fit a full complement of Lights + Mediums and then some ECM's if you want.
It has 4 mid slots which is superb from a PvP perspective, since you can cram in AB/MWD+Web+Scram+Disrupter/Jammer/Damper et.c.
The weak side of the Arbitrator is the tank. But with a smart fit you can use alot of fittings for pure tank, or use them to enhance your survivability by using more Ewar et.c. on other ship.
Overall, if I had to redo my steps as a new player wanting to do both PvE and PvP I would have gone for Arbitrator and just worked up the skills to fly it proper right away. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

t2 drones are so easy to get and you will do well in both ratting and pvp.
Arbitrator is awesome for ratting as blood raiders, i'm assuming u are in amarr space, are really easy to speed tank.

You can fit a 800mm RT with FMP II, just have to restrict yourself to an AB and no MAR (like you'd have the cap to run it anyway.)
