I'm starting a Amarr account and about to go cruiser. Which is better for ratting but could also be good for missions?

Omen takes a good amount of SP to do well, but its equally matched at low SP by the Arbi or Maller

Arbitrator is the only answer for T1 amarr cruisers for just about anything provided you have the skills to field 5 drones at once.

if you're still training up skills, then I'd probably go with arbitrator. Maller and omen need quite a bit more sp to really shine and they're tough to fit without fitting skills. Arbitrator's main weapon system doesn't cost any powergrid or cpu (drones) and it has quite a few decent fits out there for missions or ratting.

ha how little you know. Maller is equally viable than the arbitrator, but it depends what your going for as they work in 2 completely different ways and excel in different areas

I know maller is awesome, but I think arbitrator is more useful at less sp, which matters if he's a trial pilot

I found the maller a little more forgiving starting out than either the omen or arbi. If you got good drone skills though the arbi can be quite awesome.

k. trial pilots should stick to frigs imo, unless they are doing borin boring missions

drone skills arent very high. I am in a corp already and considering keeping the account and the corp is wanting combat pilots and i've already done a couple ratting missions in a coercer with some other guys. my wing commander recomended an omen due to my poor drone skills, but the maller jus seems the better choice fitting wise.

and tank wise, but what are you using it for pvp (gang pvp omen is better, maller is better for solo) or pve (maller better)?

Well so far it has been gang pvp and the guy i usually fly around with been piloting a prophecy, but i also do missions occasionally and ratting but i'm new to both amarr race and pvp so trying to get used to both.

The Arbitrator is simply the best for ratting and for missions. Rats die fast to your bonused drones, even lowsec non-frig rats. Just make sure they aggro your ship first release the medium drones and engage your tractor and salvager once they are wrecks. You can also fit a gun and launcher.
Additionally, I quite like the Arbitrator for pvp as well. Aside from the great drone damage you can tracking disrupt, which is often quite useful in small gang battles.
Lastly, it even mines.
Arbitrator is the one ship that makes Amarr noobs useful and happy. You will suck with lasers until you have trained up to cruiser 4, controlled bursts 4, energy management 4 and energy systems operation 4. The Arbitrator will be easier and more fun at your skill level and beyond. Have fun.

simply not true, maller is of equal/greater use to an arbitrator depending on the situation. Even though in a straight 1vs1 fight the maller will often end up losing against an arbitrator (both skilled pilots. The maller is an extremely effective and underappreciated pvp ship

well the problem with the arbi is that i have not invested in any drone skills to really make it worth while yet. when i looked at the amarr ships and fittings i saw mostly large powergrids and turret spaces, so i went largely beam and pulse lasers. my beginning attributes also gave me much needed energy skills including many of the ones you listed and i already have to level 4. I usually am a drone heavy player hence the reason my original character is galente and i pilot a myrmidon.

The maller has ZERO chance against an arbi. Omen has ZERO chance against the arbi. In what situation is maller better? You can fit a huge tank on an arbi because you don't need to fit guns to get all your dps. This is why, especially in QR, drone ships will be more versitile and more solo viable and better generally in this class of ships. Besides arbi gets to pick any dmg type it wants for missions. Thats quite alot more then maller can offer. Maller and omen are lulz ships. ----------------------------------------- [Video] The Cruise |

Maller has a much better and bigger passive tank than the arbi, enough to chew through a repping setup over time. Plus drones are popable, what happens when i tank your dps for a good minute while i pop your drones? infact you can fit a tank that will take you anywhere up to 6/7 minutes to chew through (depending on skills ofc). while consistantly spewing out 250 dps that cannot be reduced effectively if you are within web range.
Ships are not fail if YOU are not skilled enough to use them where they excell.

The Arbitrator is the best choice for you -- train drones V, because you're going to find that it is useful for many other Amarr ships. It takes a while to make the Maller and the Omen effective, and neither will be as versatile and powerful as the Arbitrator in most situations. The Arbitrator is an excellent support ship, capable of fielding tracking disruptors and logistics drones.
An Omen and a Maller are generally not going to be a better choice for a small gang, except in specific circumstances. If your fitting skills are high enough, you can use two 1600mm plates on a Maller with small guns. This makes you a great bait ship, but is really the only thing the Maller is good for.
The Omen has a damage bonus, but you'll find that the Arbitrator is superior in that role as well. I would avoid the Omen until you have tech II guns.
That said, all three of these ships will run level 2s. The Maller will be the most forgiving, but the Omen will do perfectly fine.

Well i'm not really looking for an argument. But i believe the fact is that i do not have drone skills. I am a gun and run type right now. I have 2 skills in drones right now... not enough to really do anything and the maller also has a better powergrid to begin with and cap is larger too. I know drones and a drone heavy ship doesnt need this but like i said, no drone skills. I want a gunner ship that will get the job done.

It's very, very situational. I love the Maller, and have had success with it, but it's just not a versatile ship. It's a great bait ship, and it's a lot fun in cruiser vs. cruiser combat, but it is just not going to add as much to a gang as an Arbitrator in any other capacity.
It has the PG and the lows to fit heavy beams and heavy pulses, but you're going to be doing sad, sad damage.

Alright, then it comes down to cost. The Omen is cheaper than the Maller, and the difference is going to count a lot for a new player. But the Maller is much more durable, and that counts in missions where you have low SP. It seems to me like you're leaning towards the Maller, so you may as well go with that.

ya i think i gonna go with that on this one. the omen does have a little drone capacity which would be nice wit some hobi t2's but i not anywhere close to that. i believe the more turrets and ability to fit more will help me. and i'm pretty much gonna be a support for the guy i helping. I'd actually take an Omen over an Arbitrator in a gang, to be honest, but that's because I don't like flying ewar boats and would rather apply 350ish dps at range with instant damage as opposed to 250 dps with slooooooooow drones.
I'd rather have a well-skilled arbitrator pilot with a rack of drones, TDs, and maybe a remote rep or two though because 150m3 of drone bay space gives you a lot of utility if the arb pilot is set up for that. That takes a bit of coordination though and for just a standard "hey we're going somewhere, X up" i'd rather see [random person x] in an omen than in an arb.
EDIT: for PVE, arbitrator 100000000000% all the way. __________________________________

My point is that arbitrator is alot more valuable in gang pvp then an omen. The distances at wich cruiser sized battles occur is no match for valkyrie speeds tbh. Add the TDs wich mess up even battleship turrets and you got a winner. Ofc if you like laser pewpew I can see why you pick omen. I've flown omen for lulz aswell when I wanted a cheap pewpew ships with laser show but it still sucks. Doesn't change that. ----------------------------------------- [Video] The Cruise |

Arbitrator is the best T1 cruiser Amarr have to offer, and by a rather wide margin. However, for new Amarr players, I'd recommend the Omen. This keeps their focus on the "core" of Amarr: Lasers, Armor, Cap.
Drone and EWAR skills are highly important, but add days and days to the already bulging skill plan. In the time it takes to get Drones 5, and begin to use the Arbitrator, Engineering 5 could be done. Core support skills are more important, so stick to the Omen for gang DPS until the basics are knocked out.
Once the core skills are done, branching into drone skills can and def. should occurr. I just don't think its the best point for a new Amarr player.

One TD with tracking script from the arbi and the maller wont be able to hit crap even when webbed.
