Aslam Nuk	Posted - 2008.12.03 22:14:00 - [1] Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I am (or tried to) play Eve from Abidjan, Cote D'Iviore. Do I get a cookie from CCP? Brought my laptop on a biz trip and remembered I had Eve on it. I wonder if CCP could let me know if this is a first. O'well, with the slow net connection I was only able to fly to an asteroid belt. Au revoir.

There's only me and a guy from Africa since we made a corp together, and he's a great guy. Speaks perfect english etc... He has money troubles though and I've often heard of him talking about bad gangs around where he lives, mugging people such as his father got mugged once visting his mothers grave. Hardly around much these days though. I hope he's kept training his skills and comes back more regularly so we can go have some fun some time. Though a lot of my friends don't seem to be coming online anymore, it's sad, I may have to start spreading my wings as I've been playing alone with pretty much no contact with anyone else in game for about 4 months and I'm feeling very lonely. I have trouble fitting with a lot of other people unfortunately and there's only been 1 corp I've been in I was ever truely happy, but it was dissolved due to the other members mutineering over the CEO being afk for an important scheuduled POS takedown.

Unless I'm mistaken there's an SA in BDCI, there's a bunch of egyptians in aliastra, there's a rather succesfull Rens trader who lives in Mombasa. Connectivity in/around urbanised regions is in many cases on par with what you see in europe, in many more places it is getting to that point steadily, trouble is africa is huge. Landlines are highly expensive over distances to put in the ground, satellite based internet isn't really feasible for EVE, but more and more wireless is seeing the light. ≡v≡

Being South African myself, it really annoys me when people (mostly naively) make comments like that. I've been in Canada for 3 years now and every time I meet someone new I always get some weird reaction or hilariously depressing comment. Anyways, have fun and enjoy your stay . Let's see...1026ms ping, one way, just to get to earth at radio's light speed transmissions, + normal lag of about 200-400ms, taking on another 1026ms for the return... If you played EVE on the ISS, you would have a ping of around 2500ms on the BEST of conditions. Also, you're orbiting the Earth so fast, that you would either need to add in a lot more lag for satellite relays or endure Dis/reconnects every 8-12 minutes.
