I have been using t2 heavy missiles launchers for years but have never trained for heavy assault missiles. I can fly both Cerbs and Drakes.
Are they worth training? What are they good for (both in PVP and PVE.)
Thanks
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

Depends on your fighting style I suppose. They're for close combat, so if you have a good afterburner you can theoretically use them for missions, but it involves a lot of flying around. People use them in their PvP setups.

Well, post patch, they still do more damage than heavy missiles, but are basically restrained to slow cruisers and bigger. You can get a 42km range or something on a Cerberus. Heavy missiles are still better for smaller faster targets, but now missiles just plain suck on faster than 500mps targets. It's sad, but they can still be good for something, and that is more damage.

Heavy missiles go on the cerberus. Drake works well with hams and a buffer tank. Also, the missile formula is now pretty horrible because right now an mwding interceptor will take more damage than an after-burning frigate.
The sacrilege is a ham ship and its supposed to be a pretty good solo ship with its tank and damage. I don't know of many people that use hams for pve though.

Before QR, HMs were fairly useless. They offered very little extra in damage and range over Jav HAMs, and any target that was outside HAM range but inside HM range - and capable of staying there - was likely to be nanoed, meaning that neither Jav HAMs nor HMs would actually hurt it.
Now HMs are more useful. They hit smaller, faster targets better than HAMs, they have a range advantage over Jav, and that range advantage is useful. Nevertheless, the 25% extrat damage from HAMs is 25% extra damage, and 600-odd DPS from a HAM Drake at ~18 km is formidable firepower, especially relative to gimped blasters and ACs. Any ABing BC takes full damage from Rage HAMs when webbed, so damage mitigation from speed is not really a problem. The main question that you should be asking yorself is something along the lines of the size of the fight - if you expect to be within HAM range of all your targets, use HAMs. But if you expect to see, for example, HACs moving around at 30-60 km range and you need to lay down suppressive/supportive fire, HMs are more useful. I've stayed with HAM Drake.
