I believe I read somewhere that EVE Online has roughly 400 subscribed players (that is players, not including alts). This would roughly translate to approximately 10% of the player base being online at any given time (server Pop average about 40k).
For EVE to have 100k server population, on average, they would need to have at least 1 million subscribers! That just sin't going to happen, and that is a damned good thing. To join Heimatar Military Industries-á visit website or conatct Bluddwolf in-gamewww.hmi.guildlaunch.com |

I think the galaxy needs mor espace, BUT not just adding nullsec to nullsec low to low etc.
It would be awesome to see stretches of lowsec that you CANT cyno to from anywhere, or small patches of low and nullsec that are not in cyno range of any other null or lowsec. I like seeing patches of hisec 'islands' in lowsec areas. Things that encourage a more diversified play style.
More space please, but make some areas slightly different and unusual. Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing. |

This will cause some to scratch their heads and say "wtf are you smoking" ... get rid of gates and change travel mechanics, seriously. More people can run around out in null and low sec more easily. Would also help reduce large sov holders being able to control vast areas they don't use.
Also make better use of existing space, there's tons of empty space never used for anything. Also, make use of some of the pace further from the star. It is a huge area, all kinds of room for content. |

There is nothing wrong with being a solo player or a lone wolf.
But there is something wrong with being irritated that you cannot have a whole system to yourself or that the number of players online when you log in is at a certain level. You have a weird stereotype of a corporation that was probably told to you by some losers in an NPC corp. They. Are. All. Wrong. Corps in EVE do not tell you what to do. They don't tell you what to train. They don't force you to camp a gate or mine veldspar. They talk to you and see if what you do matches what they do and you join up. What you like to do is what they like to do and by doing that in a group you get to have fun and the corp will provide you with many benefits that you will not be able to achieve solo. Most of the time in a corp you are free to do whatever you want solo and no one gives a &$%*.
Eve was fine at 5k players, was fine at 15k players, is now fine at 50k players and will be perfectly fine at 100k players. |

WIll EVE be just as good with 100,000 Players online as it is now with only 30,000 using the same space.
Yes and No
EVE has expanded several times sense it first came out. And it will be forced to expand even more to support 100,000 players online consistantly.
EVE hs gone from one Station if you were lucky per region to every other system now has a station.
At one point you could pick a system and you would be luck if you saw anybody at all. Now we have to scroll local.
There are good and bad points to the way EVE is now compared to then.
Personnally I want a whole new section of 0.0 created (several regions interconnected) All normal 0.0 rules with gates etc. (no NPC stations)
THe catch you can only get to them via a worm hole.

See, like is said in my first post, most people in EVE are quite friendly. This was exactly the kind of discussion i was aiming for.
More nullsec would indeed be nice, provided that the established alliances that already own large portions of nullsec now, don't get the chance to take the new area's with to much ease. I think that, by increasing the number of alliances fighting over sovereignty in more pieces of nullsec, will ultimately result in a much more vivid experience and for a lot more players.
The idea to put highsec regions right smack in the middle of a patch of nullsec systems, is also quite amazing, don't know why yet, but i just like it somehow.
Also very happy to see that I'm not one of the very few who prefers to do things solo.
btw, i said the thing about more people in "my" system, to get a general idea of growth, cause if it would keep up at this rate ( and i know it won't, but hypothetically ), the system that i call home, would be inhabited by 2000 people in 3 years time ( and yes i am exaggerating here, but you get the idea ).

I like the idea about scrapping gates, but that would put an end to gate camps and an end to gate camps would reduce sales of new ships and modules and PLEX ( if you're stupid enough to carry those on board ), which in turn will lead to a steep price drop of those modules and ships, which will lead to less profit in mining, which would lead to less people mining and less people enjoying the game.
Or it could just make everything so cheap, that everybody can afford T2 stuff and fly around in overkill ships, which would lead to the price rising again and balance is restored.
Geez, i don't know, maybe I'm just thinking to much right now....... Yes i am dutch, no i don't do drugs. |

Do any of them happen to have large amounts of asteroid belts? cause that's kinda important. People like me enjoy a nice calm system with lot's of belts to choose from, so nobody gets angry at anybody for being in "their" belt and hauging "their" roids.
In fact, in the system I'm in, i have a nice friendly conversation with my mining "competition"....... Ah, you are mining Pyro i see, well, no biggy, I'll just warp to the next belt.
Yeah, maybe it makes no sense at all, but damn i like it...... and isn't that the most important thing when playing a game? ;)

I've been after a revamp of travel mechanics or years, Quixotically at times, so do excuse me not going into all sorts of detail about other options, not going to spam this thread with ones I and others have thought up over the years. Short version, "but that would put an end to gate camps" - Yes, but not an end to non-consensual PVP, and that is key.
If interested my most recent no gates idea, although a couple years old now, http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/AdunhSlavy/RSIV611.htm
Many others have come up with ideas as well, most of them very PVP friendly.
Artificial choke points are not required for non-consent encounters as any desert nomad raiding a camel train or submarine captain sinking a merchant ship can explain. |

When I started playing there were only 7k players on at once on average! 9k was 'busy'. It wasn't unusual to fly 25+ jumps in null sec without running into a single gate camp.
Overall I can say that Eve was actually MORE fun when it had less players. It was more random and less predictable. Travel in null sec was less predictable and another person in local sparked more intigue.
I definatedly think that QUALITY is definatively more important to QUANTITY. If we were impressed by quantity then we would all be playing WoW. But most Eve players instead are looking for quality over just massive subscription numbers.
I wouldn't bother me if Eve never got any bigger. If the number of new players equalled the number of leaving at any one time it and the bulk subscription cost didn't change. The more important thing is whether the quality of the gameplay improves. What I wish the devs would do is to return to here gamer roots and think about "the game they always dreamt of playing" and how to bring Eve back inline with that as they make expansions and tweaks, rather than just trying to garner more subscribers.

Yeah when I started there were a lot less people but there was also less space - CCP added drones/black rise..
I've wanted for years to see more regions - like half as many again, but alas for some reason CCP borks hard at that idea. Probably something to do with the hardware/software time needed to do the job.
If it doubles again, we will seriously need a whole new galaxy - you can't even carebear in 0.0 alone in a system anymore. CSM7 Skype Leak

If K space got overcrowded, the expanding then number of WH systems would be a start. Right now only 5% (or 15000k players) live in WH space. |

lol... solo missioning/mining to make your own ships you use and dont sell ever? and dont ever sell any of the salvage or anything.

Drop mining from that because there may be mining competition.... for that matter... there could be mission looters...
So...
The only truely solo activitey in eve is ship spinning.
You may think that you can solo the game, all it does is gimp you when you don't have friends to call on when your tardo-fit faction BS gets jumped by some ebils.
Sure eve is a sandbox but there are ways of playing the sandbox that are better than others, having friends\a good corp is one of them. |

Ah, seen my other thread i see. Problem is though, you can NEVER assemble your mates, in time to safe yourself, by the time you contacted 3 of them and formed a fleet, you are already dead, while your mates haven't even started making their way to you. The only way to make "friends" in your corp work in your favor, is if you're on the offensive, it's impossible to have people there to help you whenever you need them, they are either not online, there are not enough online or there are none close enough to actually help out. To your initial question. Before eve would hit 100k online players CCP will allready have added a buttload of new systems/local sites and what not.
An issue is though that adding more sites in a system like belts, complexes and what not, will also increase the load on the server cpu assigned to that sector. The server hardware would requere a major overhaul to accomodate all that without every system going into TD mode. That overhaul is not going to happen for a long time.
Adding more systems would be more vialble as it spreads the load per server node and eventually only requeres server capacity increase at a more manageable level and not a complete overhaul.
But adding new sectors in null would only be viable if null would see it's infrastructure drasticly changed because it would otherwise end up being the same 'ol boys claiming more space. Wormholes were a nice addition and people explored/settled them in droves. But even those realms are currently debated in change topics.
Currently eve could easilly maintain 100k people online at if ccp could provide enough incentives to actually start spreading the population and still provide ample oppertunities for people who prefer to do their solo activity at any given time. All it takes are some big balls changes and you will see that the population will adapt and spread out and become a true mmo rather then a thrid party blowjob service to keep your dream alive.
You go your corridor but. |
