Any thoughts on it?
I really enjoy the Eve universe, but this just seems like a much better idea.
I mean Space Dogfights, Come on, makes PVP more player skills based rather than character skills based.

I'll say it politely before others arrive:
Different game, lacks most likely in other areas, EVE is more of a tactical game anyway and;

Crappy grind-based pseudo arcade. For more details search backlogs of OOPE instead of EGD.

Probably will, lol. Won't bother me because the people who will be flaming it are the PVPer with the same amount of SP as me. I think its worth beta testing though. I just saw a gameply trailer and it kind of looks like Freelancer on crack

The art/design direction pales in caparison to Eve.
You can't really compare the two in terms of gameplay; completely different animals. JGE looks pretty dumbed down to say the least, a successor to that online twitch car game that flopped, maybe? :P

1. Wrong forum! This belongs in the OOP forum! 2. Stupid game! Its a bloody twitch game, so it will be lightyears away from EVE in quality! 3. Pathetic game. Everything I have read about it stinks 4. Brainless game. WoW in Space

well considering this is the target audience for JGE i wont be surprised that people are comming on here to try and get the name around here
but they have already failed as most of the people on here are already before leaving eve
everyone knows once you hit that point in eve you may try and leave but you will be comming back crying on your hand and knees begging for forgivness like a dog waiting upon the tennis ball that you are going to throw
go to your JGE just expect that when you come back i want cookies

1. its twitch based space dogfighting. 2. You get fighters to do the above... nothing else. There are capital ships ingame... but u dont ever get one. 3. It's sharded worlds... so your friends IRL might be playing but u find out they are on the wrong server. You cant play with them. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

The orginal Jumpgate was a blast and I know ppl that are playing it. If the newer version is as fun as the orginal then I'm sure I will have to split my game playing time.
Most of the group I played with on US JG server tried EVE and most of them didn't stay with EVE.. they still refer to EVE as "space accountants game" and they were heavily involved in pvp when they played EVE.

Still being worked on.
The plans they had were amazing. The verdict is still out on if they launch, and how much of their plans make the launch date.

Looks like Freelancer with grind and a bigger server. Probably will lack any depth and longevity as Eve. Going to be one of those MMOs that has huge turn out and shuts down after 5 months.

nah I give it a 6 month life span for the players. But don't forget if it's fun new people will try it and then even more people. thus it won't break reconds but will have fresh faces, just like CS. hell I still play C&C renagade, yes that game still has active servers will full rooms every night!

I'll admit to being a sick bastage who thoroughly enjoyed twitch fighting space combat in Star Wars Galaxies, but if its all the same, at 34, I'll leave the reflex jockeying to the young kids. By the time I'd left SWG, I'd stopped using fighters and spent 100% of my PvP time piloting the multiplayer gunboats. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Edited by: Maria Kalista on 07/12/2008 13:45:28 The only thing I think that would distract EVE players for a while would be www.blackprophecy.com (if it ever comes out of beta). Just because of its sheer beauty. But, meh, I doubt anyone today would be so bold as CCP and put all players on 1 cluster.
So, EVE is EVE. Everything else will look pale in comparison.

I played Jumpgate, the first one for years. I was in the PVP squad called (SOL) Navy. It was an awesome game for PVP. It took skill, a lot of skill. There were a lot of ways to take someone down and especially grief them. There was no cloak or a lot of things that Eve has. But you could land on an astroid and hide from radar, gate camp, and tube camp (camping launch tubes on bases). The gank fleets were a great time. Even though the player base was small 100-1000 people on at the most. But PVPing actually made your bloodrise and you had a kungfu grip on your joystick. None of this Skillbook based automated pvp I see on here. If you were good at PVP everyone knew who you were because of the small player base.
But then there were the downsides, a lot... The market and economy was extremely basic compared to EVE. The devs (themis) would manipulate the market all the time so no player could blockade an item, or control it. The devs were also really shady by giving some players a lot of artifacts so they were almost unbeatable... ex. for anyone who played, Santas Helpers. The devs would ban players for almost anything they didnt like. Such as simple pirating, griefing, noob killing. The devs banned and tried to sue makers of Mods. Such as the EVEmon, or market watchers... Of course like any Online game there were balancing issues and constant nerfs.
Overall it was a great game to play during its peak PVP days. But I would never go back to jumpgate mainly because of the Devs... Surprisingly a lot of the old Jumpgate player base plays EVE. Like most games, I would recommend you try it b4 you buy it.

JGE = no capital ships, no 1000 man fights, no node crashes and no 30 minute module lag.
I don't like the sound of it as I am attached to all the above and I am going to stay in EVE. NOBODY is going to take my carrier and dread away from me.
On a more serious note you need a ping of less than 100 to play JGE as it's like a FPS game and I am not in the mood to try it out, I am more than happy with CoD IV.

well you decide. heres some tactics I used in JG. Compare these to EVE's PVP mechanics...
Roiding > The art of hugging a roid to hide from enemy radar. When fleet passes, lift off jump in from behind. Use afterburner and Divebomb. *boom* then flee for your life.
Circle Fighting > The art of squaring off 1v1 and maintaining motion in a circle around your enemy. Leading your enemy with accurate shots. The point of this is to try and get your opponent to "Turrent" you by staying still.
Dive Bombing > the art of lining your opponent up perfectly while moving and launching a nuke or missle so he will hit it head on. *boom*
Dueling > The art of charging at your opponent in a straight line. advantage if you have ammo and enemies using lasers. You can also Divebomb.
Bumping > The art of bumping heavy cargo transports while theyre docking in order to knock them off course so they crash into station.
Tube camping / gate camping > same as eve, camping gates or launch tubes on bases.
PVP in general was extremely based on players skill. Different ship fittings weighed differently, so your ship would fly light or heavy if it was weighed down. You had to lead a target with ammo as it had a trajectory. Lasers were point and shoot. A good pvper could take a gank fleet on himself, kill 3 people then flee. You cant do that in eve.
I love eve, but as far as the PVP goes. the PVP in EVE is like playing diablo online with 100 people yelling PK in chat and smacking you with the Sword of Laggyness. Thats about how much skill it takes...

Well, I've said it before, and I'll say it again.. twitch games, you absolutely must have a low ping or you'll get destroyed. I'm curious to see how they handle the lag.
As for me, I'll be 30 in a couple weeks. I'll leave the twitch gaming to the younger folk - even in my prime I had hard a time doing the railgun dance in Q2, I doubt I could even try now.
I like Eve's pvp - Eve pvp is all about strategy and tactics. You can have a bit of lag (1-2 seconds) and still do OK most of the time because fast reflexes are usually unimportant - it's more about using your head and less your fingers. ... besides, I've said all I'm going to say. You're reading my sig now! Bwa!
