I would like some help in putting together a fitting for this. At first this will be used for clean up missions for lvl 4 missions that have been completed by friends.
There will be no defences required while working with them. I would just like to maximize the time to do it in.
Thanks, Kyt

pretty basic salvage destroyer fit
highs- 4x tractors 4x salvagers
meds- afterburner + cap rechargers
lows- cargo expanders
This applies for all 4 races destroyers, the slots are slightly different but same idea for all of them

you want the hurricane for that job, a destroyer do not have the cargo capacity to salvage/loot lvl 4s. But here goes:
[Cormorant, Salvager] Expanded Cargohold II
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II 1MN Afterburner II
Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I
Salvage Tackle I Salvage Tackle I Salvage Tackle I

This works for me.
highs: 4x tractor beam, 4 x salvager mids: afterburner/mwd, cap recharger x3 low: expanded cargohold II
You may also want to put a salvage tackle rig on as well if isk is no problem. |

Thank you, Khandara
So, I would be using 1 tractor per 1 salvager, what if my max locked targets is 3?

depends on what you're looting
I personally have only had to leave behind 1 or 2 mods a couple of times in my coercer, but it has 4 cargo expanders fit on it and I usually only bother with named stuff.

This what i used a year ago should still be good for the job. If too many loot just bring all into a ejected container and go back for a transport ship :)

The only difference I have between what's been mentioned here is my mid slots, where I have an Afterburner, Cap Recharger, a Small Capacitor Battery and a Sensor Booster with the extra range script. I only have to worry about cap if I run everything for several minutes, which hasn't happened yet.
I've also heard of several players that use 5 Tractors and 3 Salvagers.
One question though in regards to the Coercer, what do people put in its single mid slot? Unless people sacrifice a low-slot for a Capacitor Power Relay, the Coercer is going to have a hard time being a Salvager due to cap shortage. |

Actually, what I do when I decide to salvage is tractor in the wrecks and as soon s they are in range I cut the tractor and shift it to the next wreck as I salvage. If I find modules that I know are worth a fair amount of cash (battleship sized modules for the most part, or high meta named items) I throw those into my hold as well. I jettison all the rest of the garbage into a single can and drag that around as I finish looting. Sometimes I come back to pick up the can in an industrial.
And, as an aside though destroyers are commonly used for salvage, you'll find that a BC easily does the job better thanks to their cargo size, greater number of mids and lows and stronger cap. Yes, it might seem a little silly to use non combat related rigs on some of the most common and effective ships around but they do the job better than most any other ship.

The catalyst is better than the commerant because it has more low slots for expanders.
Here is how I outfit mine.
4 tractors 4 salvagers
1 ab 1 battery
3 t2 expanders
3 cargo expansion rigs
Yes I use a 100 million isk worth of rigs - just because Its fun.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

I would go with a Thrasher. It's faster and has plenty of cargo space with expanders in the lows. I used to fit a cruiser-sized AB onto one for awesome speed.
Currently though I salvage with a Vigil. It's mighty fast. I don't use tractor beams, just fly to each wreck and salvage it with all three high slots firing. I don't collect the loot except for the occasional high-value item. This fitting has the secondary advantage that you don't have to ask the mission-runner's permission before salvaging.

Cormorant is just not wise, the catalyst the gallante destroyer is a much much better choice as it has 3 lows not just 1. With 3 cargo extenders t2 u get around 900+ m3 with speeds around 500m/s and all u need is gallente frigs lvl3 wich takes no time even with low stats.

No. Junt, no.
Of the four races' destroyers, the Cormorant is the WORST one to do high-salvage runs in, due to it's ONE lowslot. means ONE expander.
Best for L4 salvage is a Hurricane, which with 6 expanders has 2000 m3 space.
Hihgs: Whatever combo of salvagers and tractors you want, I use 4/4.
MIDS: AB, cap, whatever else you want with the remaining 2 mids.
LOWSZ: 6 expanders RIGS: Speed, perhaps one salvage tackle.
DRONES; 5 light t2.
That'l salvage just about any l4 in one trip.

The posters above just helped you to minimize the time ;-)
I also find destroyer as pretty usefull, although some BCs are better due to bigger cargo. [Drake, Salvager] Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II
10MN MicroWarpdrive I Large Capacitor Battery II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Large Shield Extender II
Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I
Salvage Tackle I Salvage Tackle I Salvage Tackle I
All fits are similiar. Drake can have 912m3 of cargo. Speed when mwding is not so important. You will spend more time getting cans and salvaging than moving. But sometimes you have to travel far, so I would recommend MWD over AB any time.

Once you finish the lvl 4 mission and turn it in for rewards can you warp back to the place you were at earlier if you've bookmarked it and MWD around to salvage the wrecks or do wrecks dissapear after mission is done?

I've been using a Coercer for salvage for a long time. I used the following fitting:
4x TB 4x Salvager
1x T2 AB
4x Expanded Cargohold II
3x Cargohold Optimization I
This fitting has something like 913.5 of cargo, so it can salvage most L4 (you might need a couple runs though for some of them). I have cap skills maxed out though, and I didn't run the AB at the same time as all the salvagers, otherwise boum.
It worked just fine, although sometimes annoying. Now I use a Paladin that's fitted purely for salvaging (yeah, yeah, I know...) so I don't have this problem anymore =)

Thanks for the input, Bushmill. This confirms my theory, which goes against what others here claim, that the Cormorant is not the worst Destroyer to salvage in, but the Coercer.
While yes, the Cormorant has the least cargohold available, it is the Destroyer with the most midslots, and therefore the Destroyer with the most possible cap available. If you think that's not a big issue, try salvaging in a Coercer. You will run into cap problems, especially when running the Afterburner, which will be...pretty much all the time, because the Coercer is also the slowest of the four Destroyers. It also has the shortest targeting range, but that doesn't really matter in regards to salvaging.
From worst to best, I'd rank the ships Coercer < Cormorant < Thrasher < Catalyst.
To the OP: If you're adamant on using a Cormorant for salvaging, go right ahead. In Level 4 missions you'll need an Industrial more often than not to come pick up the salvage anyway, even if you're flying a Catalyst. But training for a Catalyst takes a very short time, so it's not exactly a problem. |

I think the Salvagecane is probably the best long-term solution. With 6 low slots, you can get 2000 m3 cargo capacity. Being a BC, it's got enough mid slots to run an AB or MWD while still fitting cap rechargers (besides, salvagers and tractors aren't going to seriously impact the energy storage of a battlecruiser) and 8 high slots for tractors and salvagers. It's a little more training, and considerably more money to set up, but I think it'd be worth it for level 4 missions. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

While running the mission, bookmark a wreck in each mission "room". When mission is complete, return to your agent and collect your reward. You can now fit a MWD to your salvaging ship for greater speed in zooming around salvaging/looting at each previously set up bookmark.

I use coercer and I very rarely cap out. I fit a AB instead of a MWD and that helps immensely. 10mn ab II = 1km/s or so which is acceptably fast for almost all missions as wrecks are never much further than 50km from each other.

This is what I use:
[Catalyst, Salvager] Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Co-Processor II
Small Capacitor Battery II Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters
Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I
Salvage Tackle I Salvage Tackle I Salvage Tackle I
Most wrecks only take 1 cycle to salvage, and as I fly a Marauder in missions I make use of the 40km tractor beams and group everything together before I leave, and then return in this and take in the salvage. I usually leave most of the loot, so cargo space isn't really a problem for me.

4x salvagers, 4x tractor beams and 3x T2 Salvage Tackle rigs.
Then train Salvaging V and buy salvaging implants.
Profit with faster cycle and 75% chance to get salvage from the wreck. Massive increase compared to Salvaging III and T1 rigs.
It's sure is pricey, BUT if you do mission or rat alot, like 2-4 hours a day, you will get that ISK back in a about week or so.

catalyst is the best budget-salvager out there fast, has cargo expanders, highest base cargo (with expanders) of all destroyers 8 high slots 1 drone (doesnt help but its fun) cheap
fit it with 3 salvage tackles and you've got a decent, fast ship. hurricaine is nice, but you need a bit more skilling for a salvage ship than some non-minmatar pilots want to give.

I prefer the Thrasher over the Cormorant... but you'd have to train minmatar frigate.
Thrasher
High: 4x tractor 4x salvagers
Mid: 10MN AB II (yay for speed!) 2x Cap Recharger II
Low: 2x Cargo expanders
