I am only 2 months old and I have not really been interested in hacking but a buddy of mine for some reason spent something like 1/4 of his playing time (he has been playing the same length of time as I) to train in hacking. He does not know what the skill will be good for but he thinks its going to sound cool hacking other ships. I'm not so sure thats how hacking is used from what i have read on forums. can some one please give me some info on this ability and when / what you would use it for? Testing |

Hacking is used for exploration.. You will find certain sites with "cans" in them that can only be accessed with a Codebreaker which requires hacking.

All the skill Hacking allows you to do is use a 'Codebreaker I' module, which is used to open specific containers in Radar exploration sites and in a few specific COSMOS plexes.
Hacking doesn't allow you to open Secure Containers or hack other ships. ---

It depends on the site in question. Mainly I`ve found datacores and T2 components and salvage items. You sometimes get t2 bluprints too I hear. It is profitable but your friend may have `put the cart before the horse` as he will probably lack the skills to scan down said site anyway, doh. Then again he might have a friend who can do that for him.
I can think of better things to train at 2 months old though. Would be cool to hack someones ship and offline all their mods and jettison their ammo. However, sadly, as the above poster said, it`s not for that.

If your friend have hacking skill there is a short road to covert op frigates (frigate lvl 5) with some other skills ( astrometric /astrometric pinpointing/astrometric triangulation/signal accusition for better results ) you can try exploration . Actually you can try now in a astrometric frigate but covert ops will be faster Take a look to sticky for exploration guides at mission forum

tbh two months in you should know this stuff. Even if you dont plan to use the skills you should have some idea of thier function.
I am one month in and all of this is old news to me, I know everyone plays differently and this is in no way a jab at you or your playstyle, but you guys might want to get some heavy reading done, it will help you to no end in this game to be well informed.
At the very least start here: Battleclinic new player guide
And idle in the ingame help channel and absorb information, for every 20 rubbish lines of text there, there is one jem worth reading.

Hacking 2 is required for inventions. Open your eyes. And Awaken. |
