We tested this *yesterday* and if you are aggressed, and you log off, and you log on another toon off the same account, YOUR SHIP DOES NOT DISAPPEAR. Whether it did or not, is irrelevant, it has been changed, logging on another character off the same account WILL NOT make your ship vamoosh. and yes, this is my sig. The problem is that if you are not yet decloaked and you logoff you are not technically aggressed at the moment of logoffski and this seems to be the standard practise of a lot of people.
Personally I find the align, mwd, cloak, decloak, instawarp tactic more annoying than this though.

CCP have no excuse for letting that one still be workable. Especially now they have cov ops on blockade runners.
One wonders what the "ludicrous speed" balance teams think about some of the slowest ships in the game being untacklable in low sec.
And yes - like logging off - i now use this tactic also. Slow ass dominix running 10 man gate camps ftw

Originally by: Khandara Seraphim CCP has yet to figure out that the vast majority of players would prefer to lose a ship to the rare combat disconnect (losing connection while scrammed in a mission or genuinely disconnecting mid fight) and not have this happen than have the system we have now.
I really hate to be playing devil's advocate on this one, but you are so wrong. You have no idea about how large a "majority" of the players would prefer this mechanism to change, or how many would like to have things as they are. Nobody does. Except possibly CCP. And they, for one, don't want it to change.
Why?
Because as is, using logoffski/logonski tactics can be purely and squarely blamed on the players. It is up to them whether they do this or not. CCP does not support the practice in any shape and/or form, and did not intend for it to be abused in this way. In short, CCP is free of any responsibility and/or liability in this matter.
Now, let's say that CCP actually did as you propose and impose much stricter mechanisms designed specifically to counter logoffskis. Now let's say that during combat, someone loses their connection (and subsequently, their ship) due to a real-life issue. They file a petition and get a reply somewhere along the lines of "Due to some players abusing in-game mechanics and other players complaining about them, we were forced to take drastic actions to prevent players from exploting lost connection issues. EvE currently has no built-in features to save your ship if you lose your connection for whatever reason. Your ship will not be reimbursed. Thank you and have a nice day."
Can you predict the consequences of this? From a PR point of view, this would be suicide. From a customer relations perspective, the same. Marketing have a hard enough time selling EvE as is, this would only make it harder. CCP would get all the blame...and lose subscribers. So it ain't happening.
The best you can hope for is a half-step solution that makes it more tolerable. What Le Skunk suggests might work. Something like that is the best you're ever gonna get. |

Yeah but wouldn't his ship decloak before the 1 min is up and if we aggress him after he logged off would that not start a new 15 min timer?

Above is the only reason to not be completly a 'ship stays where it is when you log" universe. what a poor excuse for a mechanic that harms game play, and used constantly as an exploit.
But just so im clear on my position. I believe that when you log off nothing should change about the galaxy. this might remind players to stop flying what they cant afford to replace easily. we would see a decrease in 200 mill hacs, and faction fit pve ships. We would also see the end of the ctrl q pilots. What a sissy way to fly. A system of morality which is based on relative emotional values is a mere illusion, a thoroughly vulgar conception which has nothing sound in it and nothing true. |

I think the easiest way is to put something in the code to detect a window close or a control-q and if either of these occur then they have 30 seconds before they leave local.

Then people would just pull out the network cable or turn of the router or something similar.

I completely disagree with this. Many people in the IT / internet business are striving towards 24x7 yet all of the players in EvE like/livewith/tolerate 23x7, why ? Because we expect it. I would really like to see how many people cancel their accounts after a patch. Lots of EMO but in the end I think it would be nominal if any stopped playing because of this. Put it out in the patch notes, give 'em time to get used to it on SiSi and then implement. I was torqued over the missle thing, I even thought about quitting, but then it made it challenge me even more. I've been playing since beta (another char) and honestly this is the one MMO that has kept my interest because of the dynamics and challenges in the game (PvP not PvE I think PvE is boring as all get out)
If they had mass exodus over a change like this it would be from non-loyal customer base anyway.
In the end, I think simply putting a few lines of code in to detect the following: control-q, window close and put a 30 second delay before they leave local.
This will make sure freighters/haulers have eyes and/or fleet support when moving. There is a risk in jumping into lowsec and they know it.

Fine by me. Have your buddies watch local and then pull your cable. It takes ~10 seconds for EvE to detect a network disconnect of this type. Plus it's a heck of alot more difficult (mostly) to unplug your internet conn than hit ctrl-q.
I can see all the bears jumping up and hurrying to the back of their computers to unplug the cable. Or I picture LOTS of comps with the back facing the user. LOL.
My post wasn't a "this will stop them from disconnecting from the network" but more a lets make it more difficult for the to just do it willy nilly.

As a consequence ctrl+Q would be replaced by pulling the plug, so that the network connection was 'genuinely lost'
I am playing this game since August 2007 and diconnected quite a couple of times - still it never happened to me exactly when changing the session. Surprisingly I see people who lose their connection regularly on such occasions - actually each and every time they jump into a gatecamp and most likely a second time exactly after reconnecting. Only an incident? I highly doubt it...
I predict that the number of lame meta gamers will increase until the point where pvp becomes a useless waste of time. Great job CCP - we are heading towards Hello Kitty online in space

I pay a small boy (named Fredriko Jesus the third) to run on a treadmill and therefore generate enough electricity to run my computer.
I pay his sister (Moochaachaa) to hold together two frayed internet cables which snapped a few days ago.(I cant afford to buy a new cable)
As you can imagine - this causes occasional disconnects.
BUT I DEMAND NEVER TO BE PUNISHED FOR MY ****TY EQUIPMENT CHOICE! AND IF PEOPLE CAN CHEAT BECAUSE OF IT THEN SO WHAT!!!!
