If this is true it will totally shakeup the economy within eve, which is fragile without this type of drama. It would take the CCP resident economist a few days to calculate what portion of the market is from this corruption. They should have calculated that there were more materials being reacted, than could mathematically be possible. There are finite amounts of all three classes of materials, so it wouldn't take a Rhodes Scholar to figure out.

And here it comes again.
Rumor -> assumptions -> worst fears -> accepted as truth -> the sky is falling - the end of days are nigh.
If CCP does not answer right away when a rumor claims something went wrong might quite likely mean that the issue is under investigation.
It makes sense to know what really went on before making public statements.
But the high blood pressure crazy folks here always jump to conclusions and consider everything that CCP does is a conspiracy.
Give it a few days mate. Wait until you have solid information - not just some rumors from other guys who are just as excitable and fully capable of presenting 1st grade hyperbole as known fact.

Fortunes are made or lost in an instant when you have market volatility like that which is being created by CCP's silence.
They need to speak up quick. Supposedly they're on it but they need a statement in minutes not days....

I'm speculating that CCP's response will be that they have finaly brought eqaulity to the game and that you will find everything fair and balanced when you log in after downtime and that if for some strange reason you don't agree with or confirm the math, then you are free to go play WOW or some other MMO.
This is usualy the case in such an aristocratic scocity.... or should i say megalomaniacle (prolly din spell dat roight)

It's already happening. Ferrogel for instance has already gone up 5% and had more than half of the stock bought off the market.

They need to make a statement and come clean about the extent of the damage done or people will just make up their own minds and assume CCP guilty of looking the other way all this time.
no, but they can keep locking your threads, and / or ban you, and the problem dissapears altogether

Yes, because thats really gonna help. If this is a 4 YEAR?! old issue, i say CCP's credibility just took a hit that they'll never recover from regardless of how much they grovel...

I, for one, welcome our post-locking, account banning overlords.
Well, not really. Getting really sick of this crap. Surely some basic economic analysis would have shown the fact that the amount of T2 gear being produced far exceeds the amount of moon minerals that could possibly be legitimately mined? |

Dude, there's roughly 80 Trillion isk i ciculation. Using this bug the whistleblower claims to have made around 4 trillion isk over the years.
Extrapolate by how many people may have done this and we have a very, very big problem with the amount of money in circulation in comparison to the material production of New Eden. Haruhiists - Overloading Out of Pod discussions since 2007. Haruhiists - Supporting Linkification since 2008

Personally, I'd start sinking loose ISK into T2 reaction materials, I see a massive price spike in the next few, I dunno, hours? In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

I saw a TV report about CCP on Norwegian TV a little while ago (program at large had to do with the Icelandic financial crisis, and how CCP was making money as opposed to the rest of the country). They showed a large room with a bunch of people working, and introduced their "EVE Central Bank Manager, in charge of monitoring the EVE economy", who had several flatscreens with a bunch of graphs and whatnot. How did he manage to miss this ? This is truly impressive :)

Actually, the ISK in the game was generated by legitimate means, such as ratting. The fact that it's migrated to the exploiters is the problem. If all the exploiters and their gigantic wallets full of our (the T2 buying public) ISK get banned, then there will be a huge DROP in the ISK in circulation, possibly causing deflation to at least partially combat the expected rise in T2 prices.
It's still a huge crapshoot though.

Edited by: Captain Thunk on 10/12/2008 21:08:45 Let CCP do the figures before assuming how much of the market was ill gotten gains.
Considering the nature of the exploit, as detailed on other sites, I don't see that it has as dramatic an impact as some people are assuming. More likely a very small group knew about it and will very likely be banned as a result. If the information was that widespread and being passed around as freely as some people are assuming then it's unlikely to have taken 4 years to come to light.

We're expecting bannage and sackings.
A database export showing the reactions in progress with the amount of items being produced should've highlighted an issue.
How many times are exploiting alliances going to be allowed to get away with this?
EDIT : on a side note woot for T2 BPOs :) /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |
