Edited by: Luxcivious on 09/03/2009 22:45:42 I don't think it would drain anyone from 0.0 because they're too wrapped up in it. It would, however, give some 'other' players something to get wrapped up in of THEIR choosing and not dictated to them as how they should play. That's really too bad. I might never go out to 0.0 but FW I could stand.
I would think an angle you can take in presenting all of the information Friedrick put together here is this:
I am a new player and I've watched many of the new videos about Sleepers and CCP's production team promoting and talking about them. One thing that the highest levels of production management at CCP seem to keep stressing in the videos they are showing is that they...
"Want to focus on the 'New Player Experience'"
In my eyes as a new player FW sounds like something that was started as a great idea and as they're trying to build their customer base (40k players online now???) they have added and added to the game to hit some of this 'new player' appeal.
I was honestly not aware of FW until I read this thread. Sure I've seen plexes in high sec / low sec but I didn't really know what ROLE they played in the game. From what I'm reading in this thread it seems the only role they serve is to lose ISK while at the same time gaining nothing comparable.
I'm running missions in high sec, building my bank, and DESPERATELY want to move out to 0.0.
I would think that as part of the 'New Player Experience' FW is the place to start... or it could be if the changes in Fried's post were implemented.
It seems like the PERFECT bridge to 0.0 from high sec if it were sustainable.
Some people like to mine. Some people like to run missions. Some people like the politics, PvP and fleet battles in 0.0.
Why can't some people like fighting for the entire story that CCP says EVE is based on? It all seems very foreign that it isn't possible to sustain this manner of play.
As a 'New Player' I am very much looking forward to FW if these changes are implemented. It would give the people that enjoy this type of play...a game to play... otherwise they'll go else where, who wouldn't.
EVE "could" be (to some) a game based on a war between Gallente/Minnmatar vs. Amarr/Caldari... oh wait, isn't it suppose to be?
It seems like something got left behind on the way to where CCP is now. Reading through the patch notes for Apocrypha and hearing that CCP is now using SCRUM teams to accomplish milestones/goals, I would think the relatively small amount of things that would need "fixed" to make this work are small in comparison and seem like a basic core element of the game that should be there. It makes the game complete.
They make these changes, get FW 'right'. High sec mining/mission running/trading is 'right'. 0.0 is what it is.. we'll call it 'right' :) and then Sleep Space and wormholes... the jury is still out on that one but if it turns out 'right' as they are saying then there will be four completely different ways to play the game all entertwined in to a marvelous universe. Exactly what a new player is looking for.
The 1-6 month old character is looking for some low sec action and is familiar with mission running. Why not use FW as a vehicle for that without bankrupting the new player and at the same time getting them deeper in to the backstory of EVE itself.
To me this sounds like common sense to grow a customer base, but what do I know.
Maybe we can get 40,000 replies?
