Yea, But ccp gets to dip into the profits on this twice. Once on the ETC purchase, and then once again on the video card profit. Your getting about 150$ and it's costing you about 350$ (and you can expect to pay taxes in some places!).
Wonder what sort of trading laws the EU would apply to this, Buying of goods and services have distance regulations, so all sales are not final.
The people who will be pissed off by this are the people who pay for a lot of accounts with plex. CCP is trying to get 2,000 plexes to exit the game. That's a LOT of plexes. 2,000 players for a month.
Time codes are going from 500+ to 600+ today and probably if people do buy into this crackpot scheme... 700+ tomorrow.
There's a couple of other legit ways that players get money from ccp using their ingame isk, I think the payout is quite a lot better than this 42% return.
It might work to get some people to dump isk, I am not sure about it. CCP have made it clear that the "sandbox" is closed and that everything in game is theirs to mutate as they wish, adding this layer of "trading" is deadly and when it gets abused then players will have no recourse.
CCP makes a lot of money from EvE, it's their product and as such they should be allowed to do so, but it plexes* me as to why they would try to sell the feathers from the goose that's laying the golden egg. |

Whitehound wrote:I like the idea, because I still have a GTX260 and enough ISKs for 20 PLEX.
There is however one problem. What do I do with 20 PLEX should I not get a card? I pay for my subscription and do not need PLEX. Nor do I find trading with PLEX attractive to my game.
Can I buy one just with ISKs?
No, you need to do it indirectly. Buy plex, reverse redeem, and hope tomorrow your one of the 100 that can apply (else you have 20 plexes that you probably overpaid for!)..
CCP do not (nor do users) want a direct isk->$$ scheme in place. Driving plex prices up will give incentive for players who would buy isk to do it using Plexes (thus driving real purchase demand). Isk exiting the game (only 10 trillion) would probably only strengthen the value of ISK and just provide a finacial loss to CCP. |

ight8 wrote:I love this idea, it supports players who need better graphics cards and provides an isk sink. There are alot of people in Eve with 10-20 bill sitting in a wallet somewhere or have 100's of billions in crap laying around in stations long forgotten. I think isk needs a solid value marker like RL paper money is to gold. Even Chucky Cheese gives out prizes for tickets.
Do you know what a Isk Sink is?..
This may create more isk flow, but that's not an Isk Sink. |

Also... I would like to know. Are these units going to be tagged with serial numbers, and any turning up on ebay resulting in the purchasing accounts getting banned.
After all, Isk -> $$$ = ban.. No?

Leah Mendez wrote: CCP isnt really making any money off it at least not directly.
They are selling tops 150$ worth of gear (It's probably 100 OEM units with a fine discount) and removing 350$ worth of liability from their books. They will probably $20k or so out of it, not a lot in the scheme of things, but it's enough to say that they are making something out of it. |

Economy Suppression wrote:"How to be a genuine b****" AKA the hypocrite human character" It goes like this: Step one - tons of people saying CCP rips them off by selling way overpriced and useless graphic cards. Step two - tons of people blaming CCP for having problems with the Account Management. Of course, they didn't forget to reiterate how overpriced, good for nothing, old etc the graphic cards were anyway ( 0.0 players know the argument as "we didn't want that system anyway" ) Step three - The graphic cards were sold in under 2 minutes. Steep four - tons of people blaming CCP for not "giving away" enough graphic cards, despite the fact that, at step one, they were against the idea of selling those graphic cards at all. This only confirms the fact that hypocrisy has no limit when it comes to human kind Btw: Thanks CCP for giving away those 100 graphic cards. Unlike changes that occur ingame with each patch, which are mandatory and apply for everyone, this experiment was free for all, so there's no logical reason to blame CCP unless you're either an idiot or a malevolent person.
Hypocrisy comes into play if the peole who didn't want it purchased the cards, or tried to purchase cards and complain that there's not enough capacity.
I did not attempt to purchase a card, nor do I care that they only sold 100. If 100 players can dump that amount of isk to get a crappy video card then it shows that there is too much isk flow imbalance in the game anyhow. CCP should now look at the iskflow of everyone who tried to buy a card and see what is over-paying and if any of it is just pure grind. I agree that some players have too much isk to do anything productive, in that respect it's probably a okay move. |

If your in the UK don't forget that not only is the item taxed at 20%, so is the insurance and delivery cost. In the past you could ship these without paying VAT by buying a card that did not have any firmware loaded on it, I doubt that loophole still exist, and even if it did then the flash chips are not removable in these units these days so it would be a pain. FedEx will tack a fee on top for adding the tax and collection of the taxes. I think it's the greater of 2.5% of total taxible amount OR -ú10.50. Since the tax on this will be low (-ú40--ú60 depending on RRprice+insurance+shipping) then you should expect the -ú10.50 addition. I do not think customs/import duty should will be payable on this item as it will not be above the limit. If the declared value is Nil, then you shouldnt pay any tax or fee. This will depend on what Nvidia puts on the export sheet. Would be sad if if NV uses RRP and some of you guys end up paying more for the video card than you can pick it up for in the stores ;P.... Would also be sad if it died in a month because American warrantys are usually useless. But eh, Most ppl who purchased were just dumping isk so it doesnt matter that much.
** Edit, CCP made this into a wall of text by deleting all of my typing and offering me a Draft in the form of wall of text. I am leaving it as such as that must be what they want. |

MEPH1ST0 wrote:Ok, i had a reply to my petition again :
Hello,
Got an answer from nVidia in regards to that.
The value of the item at $185 and list it as a "free gift" on the invoice. They, at nVidia, will be attempting to incur all shipping costs, so /hopefully/ there will not be any taxes or customs to be paid. This of course can go sour, but we at least trying to make it so that there will not be any additional cost. */snip/* As i said, or tried to say a few pages earlier, is this is a new "venture" for ccp and there was bound to be "teething problems", which , we seem to have "helped them" find/solve :) At least next time (and i am sure there WILL be a next time) they run this event, they'll hopefully know what info to publish/announce regarding where its shipped from, valuation, etc etc
Anyways, just wanna say a thank you to CCP and NVIDIA for this great offer/promotion
Meph
In the UK a "Gift" will incur slightly lower cost.
It's not really a great offer/promotion ;P... CCP have done RMT sales and sold $350 worth of goods and then sent out $135 Gift (Gifts are tax deductable) to you. Could net them $250 profit each card (not bad eh?). |
