So, just to avoid any kinds of confusions, please change the wording when berating people from "minerals I mine are free" to "minerals I mine are worthless"
you forgot to add "again" to the statement since this what? about the 1000th time this whine has come up?
For the rest of you...
Look if you're not taking advantage of the guys who drop their sell price below mineral reclamation value wtf will whining about it on MD do? Stop putting all your eggs in one basket if that's the reason you're whining. Look it's pretty easy to setup a spreadsheet listing 4 important values for any manufacturing run you may make.
1) Your manufacturing costs on the run - i.e. mineral costs + manufacturing costs 2) Your minimum sales value (I usually put the above manufacturing cost +10% as my minimum sell price - I'll put stuff up for higher if the market will bear it but never for less - choose a percentage that works for you). 3) Your reprocessing value - i.e. if you reprocessed the item what the value of the minerals are - using your current scrapmetal skill 4) 90% of this the reprocessing value and use it as a maximum buy point.
All these values are tied to the current mineral valuation for the region I'm in. I update them on a weekly basis or when I buy minerals to re-build stocks.
Now on an average week, once I get a store setup my burn rate is usually greater than my mining rate. This means that I usually end up having to go buying minerals at some point. If I spot someone who's sell price is below my "buy price for reprocessing" I buy it off the market and melt it. Be careful with named stuff - they do not always have the same mineral content as stock T1 stuff.
Just last night I ran into a situation where my minium sale price on an item was arround 35.5 isk per unit (yep it's ammo). There were 100k round up for 28. Did I ***** and moan about it? Nope I first double checked my BPO to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. No mistake. Then doublechecked the price of trit on the local market. Yep still 4.0 when sold in volume (1.5mil+ units) Since i had just made a batch I double checked my reprocess value based on my current skills (dont' have scrapmetal yet) and the 90% of mineral value of reprocess worked out to 27.8 a unit. So I put my stock up at 35.5, bought out the 100k of ammo picked it up in my prowler 1 jump away, brought it back and melted it.
Did I come to MD to whine about the guy selling at 28? no. Did I do the obvious thing? yes.
