Actually the difference between ME5 and ME10 is about 750k on Tier 2 Battleships, less on Tier 1. Which is about 1% of your cost price. So the amount of time to research the BPO the extra 5 levels isn't really worth the investment. Nor is paying more for higher levels. The difference between ME10 and ME15 is quite negligible.
We use them, and don't need BIG sticks either...

I've heard people ingame complain that they don't accept anything less then ME 20. It was obvious all they knew about "ME" was that higher is better and nothing about its asymptotic character.

Ray,
As someone who may consider bidding could you point me to somewhere where I can find out the exact difference in minerals between a ME5 and ME15 BS BPC, or pick one of your Tier2 BS and show me those stats.

Edited by: Wonderfull on 17/07/2004 20:30:32 If you take your BS BPO from ME 5 to ME 10, and saves 750k on each ship i would say its worth it. Taking BPO from ME 5 to ME 10 is around 16 days, probobly a bit longer. in that time you can make 26 BPC ( 15 houres to make a copy ), selling for tier 2 a 4.5 mill each. so thats 117 mill.
Taking you save 750K on each BS you build, you have to sell 156 BS to make home the research time.
I would say thats worth it, if you plan on being in the BS building for more then a few months.
I know the research time for taking the BS BPO to ME 10 might be a littel short, but still i consider it worth it if you take it to ME 10, but taking it over ME 10 just aint worth it considering the amount on BS you have to build to break even with the research time. And then you have to remember you can sell the ME 10 for a bit more then the ME 5.

Researching a BPO is worth it, paying so much more for higher ME bpcs isn't.
for Example, Apoc made with PE5 with the following mineral prices:
Trit: 2 Pyer: 6 Mexa: 11 Isog: 71 Nocx: 340 Zydr: 4300 Mega: 6500
ME5 Total Cost: 100,135,562
ME10 Total Cost: 99,386,106
Exact saving from 5 to 10 : 742,616
ME15 Total Cost: 99,112,014
Exact saving from 5 to 15 : 1,027,594
Exact saving from 10 to 15 : 284,978
ME20 Total Cost : 98,963,938
Exact saving from 5 to 20 : 1,171,290
Exact saving from 15 to 20 : 143,696

This can best be described as a line graph, arcing to a point but never actually meeting it. The more steps on the graph, the less closer it gets to that point.
That is to say, the more levels in Mineral Efficiency research, the less of an impact they have on the wastage.

Thanks to Mari Y'Tuk for providing the answers. As you can see the difference between ME5 and ME15 for a Tier 2 battleship is just over a million, or 1% of the sale price.
And Mari's Spreadsheet is one of the best resources out there. Get it, use it.

Soljah has it at 27m.
Auction finishes just before midnight tomorrow.
Edit - This table may help you a lot more for comparisons. It lists the savings between each ME from 1 - 20.

The reason behind BIG's reluctance to research these BPCs further is of course they are BIG's share of the BPCs generated by the "BIG deal" open BPO partnership.
To take the bps away from copy and into research would likely require consent from all those who "own" (and therefor would lose their BPC per week during research) the BPO.
Besides, ~2m and ~3.5m arnt bad prices to pay for t1 and t2 BPCs respectively :) Especially given the boom in apocs recently.
JaiMaster happy previous BIG BPC auction customer ------- Skill points. ISK. Ships, rare equipment. Its all just a means to an end...
