Edited by: haulitall on 16/12/2008 08:34:27 *edit* Failpost is Fail. Issue was with a DNS resolution error I've been having and xfire properly updating my profile. /edit
Im having issues getting xfire to even detect eve. I scan for games, nothing. I rescan for games then manually point to eve, nothing.
I'm sure others are having the same issue, and yeah, eve is running.
added to firewall/AV exceptions, still nothing.
How is one supposed to participate?

Also:
* If you close one EVE the timing will stop, even if you still have another EVE running.
* You may have to manually point XFire to your EVE installation, even if it's installed in the default location.
* It trashes EVE Voice.
* It does not count time at all if the XFire client is stopped before EVE.

Since there is no link between an x-fire account and an eve-account....no measures are possible. Besides, X-fire only checks if the eve executable is running, not what you're doing with it. For all it knows, you could be sitting at the login screen all day (that is, you don't even have to have a valid eve account to participate...well, until you win of course, then the cat'll come out of the bag).
(I'm not sure if (and if so, how) X-fire checks if the executable you point out as being your eve executable is actually your eve executable...for all I know, you could rename something into Eve.exe and run that all day) Another thing that springs to mind is running multiple x-fire clients simultaneously, with different accounts. Will they all notice the same instance of eve being run? The only way to detect if someone's doing this is by checking all accounts IPnumbers and filtering doubles (if the people at X-fire are even doing that).
All in all, there are waaaay too many methods of being less than totally honest

Also this:
Quote: But before we tell you what you can win, you should know what you have to do in order to qualify. It's simple: play EVE Online while the Xfire client is running. If you play for 2 or more hours between 15 December and 31 December you have a chance to win one of the following prizes:
On the Xfire events page, it sez...
Quote: Jan 1 7:45am EVE 'til EVE Ends! The EVE 'til EVE Xfire event ends!
Hurry up and get those...
The loopholes, exploites and questions are starting to make this look a lot like a BBC phone in competition. :) No, but seriously, does this make any difference? |

I told my friend about the contest, she has 2 accounts, and left one on by mistake at downtime, and got a smartassed message "Ha! detect you chat, server is of and you are playing!"
After decoding into English ("OFF" = "OF", "CHAT" = "CHEAT"), I think she is now kicked from the contest because xfire is too stupid to know if you're really connected or not.
If this was an EVE official, he's too stupid to be speaking English.

That's rather pathetic. Was it some sort of system message, or could it have come from a jealous macrominer trying to take further advantage of their 23/7 presence? |

i played over 40 hours this week and the last and before that - xfire logs what you played each week so what does your quote have to do with me not wanting to be in a guild? Trashed sig, Shark was here |

Oh yes, I do. But it seems YOU don't. One of the requirements for winning is participating according to the terms set by CCP and/or Xfire. The terms include playing 2+ hours, which you have, and joining the clan/guild. You haven't done that. So, since you haven't done that and you don't want to do it either, you cannot participate in this contest. that's really all there is to it.
Basicly, you're saying that you want to win, but don't want to do what you need to do. So you did really exclude yourself...

So, you don't want to join the Eve Guild on Xfire. However, you expect CCP to manually search every user on Xfire for the contest? The Eve Guild on Xfire make the best sense.
If you don't want to join the guild, then don't. Just don't sit here and complain when the rules have been clearly explained for participation.

as shown by this post xfire adds the people to the guild meaning xfire is participating - it is not hard for xfire to give ccp a list of people that played over 40 hours in the time period of the contest - why would every xfire user be searched or even every user that has played eve in the past but not in this time period? those stats are already public

I do, actually. But as you have been explained several times, it's a requirement to participate, a requirement to win. If you don't both play AND join a guild, you can not expect to be considered a participant and have no chance in hell of winning. Yet you still come here and complain that it's CCPs fault that you cannot win, with the argument that "it's pointless". How nice, how convenient, blame everyone but yourself.
As for my own participation, I only signed up to Xfire and the clan to have a shot at this. As soon as it's over, Xfire is uninstalled from my computer. I have no reason, no desire, to use Xfire or be part of the community. To me, using Xfire is all about E-Peen. EVE-related, I have my own corp because I don't want to be part of other corps or alliances. I am in FW, that's the closest thing I come to, as you put it, "joining -any- guilds or corps". So yes, I do understand the concept and I do live by it myself. But I don't whine about not being able to win something because of a personal choice not to participate in this or that competition...

and this is why ccp is rewarding people like you and an insignificant blip on the xfire stats and not people that use xfire all the time by the way it isnt a whine it was one post - you made a series of posts about it complaining and it seems you are mad that i am not posting smileys and trying to join a lottery for the 35 dollars that i apparently should do anything to try to get Trashed sig, Shark was here |

Because CCP said it must be so.
Ok, try this. An organization states they are offering a give away with lots of money to be won. Their only requirement is to sign up (for free) for the competition. However, there is one individual that refuses to sign up and demands the organization search the internet to find them.
This is silly talk. If there were horses in Eve, this horse would be seriously dead!
