Edited by: Marguerite Antiki on 15/12/2008 23:32:00 Morning all,
I am researching the ability to run more than one account on my PC. I recall reading that it is possible on the pcs we have nowdays but would like to try and find details on;
- Setting cache size to run two accounts without crashing (Do I have to do this?) - Hardware / memory Specs required to run two accounts - (Do I need more than 1GB?) - What is the registry change to make the 3rd Trial account run on my pc (j/k)
If anyone has any good guides or tips on what I need to look out for it would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
M
Edit - can some oen move this to QnA ? Forgot what page I was on when I wrote this. :(

Afternoon,
I just run both on full screen and alt tab back and forth. And I don't have any high end PC or anything. Trying to get a 2nd monitor for it
- You can set catch size in the menu - Intel Pent Dual Cpu 2.00GHz , 3 GB of ram and Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT runs fine.

Edited by: Par''Gellen on 15/12/2008 23:44:44 1. Install Eve. 2. Make a copy of the installation folder. 3. Create a shortcut from the eve.exe's in both folders and put them on your desktop. 4. Put both of them in windowed mode (makes alt-tabbing between them much easier). 5. Play.
Edit: Oops I hit the post button to fast. I didn't change anything in the clients except to turn off sound on both of them. My PC has 4GB of RAM.

I run 3 Premium accounts on my machine, all windowed, all with a Low cache setting, all from the SAME installation folder. And it works just fine for me. No need to make copies of the folder, seperate shortcuts or sacrifice a cheezburger on the LOLCAT altar
But it is highly recommended to have more than 1gb of RAM these days, for just about anything. 2 is a minimum...

Actually there is. If you run out of one folder the game doesn't create seperate settings and cache folders for each account. Back when I ran out of one folder strange and unexplainable things would happen a LOT. ---

Hey all, thanks for the prompt reply.
Overall I have, Intel Dual Core 2.6 Ghz CPU 1GB Ram Gefore 7800 256MB Vid 2 x 22" Wide Screens
I would do a DXDiag but am at work and cannot remote back onto my PC as its turned off.
So I will grab some more memory by the looks of it. However, I am unsure on the two EVE Folders. Is it worth it or not? What are the issues if you dont mind elaborating.

He's ABSOLUTELY right! Download 2 clients, When it askes for the destination folder simply put eve1 then eve2-- for the second, then make 2 desktop icons (1 for each). I had to seperate clients, and had no probs then I tryed just one for 2 accounts and like he said (strange chit happened all the time) + I had more lag when useing 1 client!

Here's a screen shot of what Eve will do automatically if you run out of two folders. In this case my install is on my Z: drive and I have two accounts. One is in Z:\Eve\Gellen and one is in Z:\Eve\Nabuk http://www.neoncranium.com/MultiAccts.jpg If you run them out of the same folder then you only get one set of cache files and back when I used to do that I'd get random crashes to desktop and sometimes my jet cans and hangars wouldn't update correctly. After I started running them out of seperate folders I've had no issues at all like that and my crashes vanished completely. ---

I recommend downloading and patching up one client, then go into your "Program Files\CCP" folder, or whereever you installed, and simply copy the entire folder. Disk space is cheap. I'll then rename the folder something like "EVE_2". If you go in that folder, you'll see the "EVE.EXE" executable. Make a shortcut to your desktop.
I find EVE runs a lot smoother if you run this way. You CAN run out of one folder and one installation, but I find keeping them separate works better.
While you are at it, you can make a third copy, call it "EVE_TEST". Make another shortcut, call it "EVE_TEST" and open its properties. In the "target" field, add the following at the end of the string: /server:87.237.38.50
This will force the EVE_TEST client to connect to the test server. Log in like normal; CCP copies your account information to the test server periodically. If you're a new user, it might take a few weeks before you get synced over.
Now if you want to do this on a MAC... it's possible, and I do it, but the Mac Cider client is a bit whacky if you ask me.

Once again download the client 2 times. When the prompt asks you in which folder type in eve 1. Then download the client again, this time type eve 2. Then after a restart, go to explore computer files, find eve1 make a desktop shortcut- do the same with the eve2. then when time to play launch each one seperatly.
His card is fine to get by on. You don't need the latest chipset to play the game. I have a 7600GS and run 2 clients in classic content just fine. If you want premium graphics then he will need a new card to run both in premium but if you just want to get by on the minimum then he will be fine. ------------------------------------

I run three clients out of the same folder with NO problems as far as seperate account settings go.
I have a 2GHz turion, 2GB RAM and a 7900GS Go. I set cache to lowest setting for three clients, as vista will tell me i'm running out of memory otherwise
So like someone else said, you can't have enough RAM

Didnt you know - once you download the client once and install it, the download file implodes itself on the hdd and you need to download it again. :P

You're all wrong, because there is no one answer that applies to everybody.
I know people who play multiple accounts out of one folder, and they have no issues. I, however, have to play out of two folders if I want to run two Premium clients. I don't know why, but when I was trying to play from one folder if I had both clients running premium my screens would go completely black and I would have to restart my computer. I installed the game a second time (I chose this in lieu of copying the folder) and I haven't had a problem since. I just recently did a fresh install of Windows and installed the latest video card driver, and while my problem before could have just been a driver issue I chose to stick with two folders for EVE this time around anyways.

I just launch the client twice, and run in windowed mode. It worked fine for me using an Athlon 3500+ single-core CPU with an ATI HD2600Pro card and 1GB of memory.
I've recently upgraded to a Q9550/9800GT combo with 4GB of RAM, running Vista, but my other (vintage 2006) box running XP with 3GB RAM feels faster.

I run as many as nine Eve windows without separate folders. I run Classic graphics only, with cache = off. My Eve windows are all 1280 x 1024 and my two monitors are 1600 x 1200.
Two 3.0 GHz Dual Core Xeon (4 cores total), 1333 FSB 8 GB mem, only half presently 667 MHz, so mem runs at 533 MHz EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512 MB "Superclocked" Two Dell 20" 1600 x 1200 LCD monitors Various disk drives 64-bit WinXP Pro
I strongly recommend a 64-bit OS for running more than two Eve clients, and lots and lots of memory. The 32-bit OSs are only capable of accessing 4 GB of memory, and usually only about 3 GB. If your memory usage approaches the amount of physical memory you have, the OS will begin to page portions of some of your apps out to the swap (page) file, and you will notice huge lags when the OS has to page them back in.

*smirks* I don't think Adobe sold more than a single copy of Photoshop. The rest were almost certainly pirated. I swear, everyone I knew who had a Mac seemed to mysteriously manage to get a copy of the outrageously expensive Photoshop, yet couldn't afford to feed themselves Mac n' Cheese (no pun intended) without bumming $5 from me. And don't get me started on their political affiliations!
That said, while I would never make it my primary machine, they're actually not bad. Nice development environment, and at its heart is a Unix kernel. All borrowed from NeXTSTEP of course, which means that basically the Mac of yesterday IS long since dead. Jobs got his revenge, and the NeXT lives with an Apple logo stylishly integrated onto its plastic exterior.

You don't need to install EVE twice. Just install once, then copy & paste the C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE folder to C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE2
When an update comes down the line, just delete the EVE2 folder, copy & paste again.
More RAM is a must. You can get by with a cheaper/older video card just by turning detail levels down and turning off effects that don't matter. Turn off sound! Sound is implemented very poorly in EVE, having multiple clients with sound turned on will cause massive lag.

Running things out of 1 folder works fine, but some settings can mess up ingame.
Extreme example is setting a autopilot route on one account, and then finding that it transfers to the other occasionally. This is excellent when you are pvping and running a freightor alt, only to see the freightor try to autopilot to 0.0. --
