Ok, so for the past week or so, I have been mining about two to three hours a day on average, and I just today had my whole jettisoned can of plag stolen, wich i had been mining for about an hour.
I am not going to ask for a ban on ore thieving, I know that wouldn't get very far, however, I had an idea concerning the aggression countdown.
In corp wars, if a corp is camping one corp in a station, if a member form the corp in the station undocks, then he can be attacked, and is allowed to dock so long as he hasn't attacked anyone else.
I suggest something similar for ore thieves. For the duration of the aggression, the ore thief is not allowed to enter any station.
I want to see what everyone else thinks of it.

You're using a jetcan, right? Jetcans are mobile garbage cans, and those taking the cans from space are just providing mobile trash collection.
We should receive an ISK bonus for cleaning up after you - not a station lockout.
So, no.

I'm still of the idea of using secure cans or a hauler alt/buddy. Last time there was a "great idea" to stop ore theft, can flipping came into effect. What is to say that they won't use this against you? -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Thief flips can, says "sorry, thought that was mine, let me jettison is for you." You come and take it, you get aggression, now you can't dock and are flagged. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

No, but it also gives you too much power, which is why it would never come into play. You, as a victim, would have the ability to fit up a ship to find/kill the ore thief, while they would have no ability to retaliate. (i.e. swap ships)

Lets not forget that mining into jetcans was originally an EXPLOIT. CCP decided to let you keep doing it, but with the risk of letting you be a target for any would-be ore thief out there. Looking at it this way, you should be damned thankful you have such an easy way to mine, and pray ccp doesn't eventually correct this unintended abuse of the game mechanics.

Interesting, the main reason I thought of this was because it was that whoever took the ore could just sit in station and I could do nothing in the way of retaliation.
There is still nothing to prevent the thief from fitting a cloaking device, or simply jumping out of the system.

I might also add that the thief who flipped my can was in an Ishtar, if I had retaliated, he could have most certainly put up a fight.

there will always be some ****s that come and flip your can now and then. just fit hulk with cargo expanders and cargo rigs and you have over 17k hold. tho it cuts off some of mining efficiency but atleast your ore is safer.
remember though, there will always be suiciding *******s too, hence i said safer. not perfectly safe

Jet can mining was never intended, you were meant to fill your cargo hold then drop it off, silly but true, technically jet can mining is an exploit, but frankly to punish it would be stupid and CCP knows it.
But to ask for ccp to force sever game limiting penalties for someone for such a long time is just daft.
Go away, I already found a ton of ways to exploit this by the way.

You ore was not stolen. get that out of your head. As a Miner If i Jettison a container. Its Not mine! Its Discarded.
JETTISON; to throw off (something) as an obstacle or burden; discard.
So the system of can fliping is fine. its become part of Eve. If you want to not get it flipped. join a corp. Join a corp that has a orca. or haulers.
Theres many ways to prevent the flipper. You just have to use them.

I recommend mining into your cargohold, not talking in local, ignoring all requests for convo, going back and forth to the station, all on a toon named "SP57HRZL25Q".

First mistake is mining in a jetcan. Second mistake is expecting CCP to protect something you discarded. Third mistake is asking what everyone else thanks about it!
As someone else pointed out mining in a jetcan at the beggining was considered exploit but ccp allowed it as a risk vs reward situation. Reward is the fact the can will hold 27000m3, risk is the fact it can be stolen or flipped. If ccp were to make it to where the can is protected this would allievate the risk factor and so should just ban mining in a jetcan all together. so to make it short if you don't want it stolen don't do it.

How about, the one who jets a can close to someone, becoems blinky to that s0omeone for 15mins due to "bad behaviour" (I.E Farting out a container in the persons face).
That would certainly make sense to me. ------------------ Recruiting..

It's weird how closely the miners and jetcans and can flippers situation in EVE-Online mirrors the old Miners and Packmules and Greys back in Ultima Online.

Solution, get a blackops bs next to you in same corp, cloak him up wait for the thief, problem solved, second solution, get in a real corp get into 0.0 and mine ark or bistot with the protection of pos's and friendlys. plag is FTL BTW veld is the way forward. check ur figures out, ammount + time to mine + cost = veld FTW |

There are two thoughts I might share. First, haul a secure can out to the mining location AND ANCHOR it... you need anchoring skill to do that and prob an indy to move the thing. For this reason not everyone can do that. What I do is I have purchased a second account and the toon on the second account can fly an indy... and about nothing else. It does not take long to train a char to that lev. What I do is run them both out to the Asteroid belt (alt-tab between two instances of Eve)and begin mining. When the cargo hold is full I check to be sure no one is anywhere close to me and then jetison the can...immediately alt-tab to the hauler and pull everything except 1 unit of ore into the Indy cargo hold (the one unit of ore hold the can from exploding). The opportunity to flip the can almost doesn't exist. Repeat this till the Indy is full and warp the indy to the station, empty out, and warp back to the miner. Endless possible variances on this basic theme exist but you get the idea. Best wishes and good luck.
