My client has been crashing in a weird new way. The client disappears and is not visible on either the active programs list (CMD-TAB) or on the force quit list (CMD-OPT-ESC) yet you can hear the sounds of the game in the background. Only option is to reboot the computer.
The last few patches have been an absolute joke. Each one has fixed some problems while introducing new, increasingly serious ones.
My playing experience is far worse today than one year ago when I started playing eve.

Edited by: masijumi on 20/12/2008 02:38:36 My client seems to be running fine, but for the second time in a row, it has done a download in the client, and then another download in the patcher.
Other than the annoying two downloading thing, its great. I can finally use the F11 map!!! Textures seem to be normal. I need to run a mission, to find out if its still getting texture swapping where the map pic is supposed to be, but my guess is it works, since the F11 map now works.
much thanks :)
oh, my machine is a late 2007 MBP, 2.2 GHz Core 2, 4 GB RAM, 8600M GT

re-inserting my old preferences enabled me to be able to open EVE on my iMac finally. (It also returned my saved prefs from before) It wouldnt open until then. a strange thing that remains is that on both iMac and mbp when i try to open EVE there is a prompt window "there is a update to EVE do you want to download...." Even though the update was installed. The window pops up three times (after I hit cancel or no) , before EVE will finally open.

Well, for me, this is almost good enough for a release candidate.
With Leopard 10.5.6, a 3.2Ghz Core2 processor, and nVidia 9600GT @ 1900x1200 (BeamSync disabled), I'm seeing around 70'ish FPS in station and around 30 - 45 running around in med sized gangs. Totally playable, Eve Voice works, and no graphics anoms to speak of.
Performance seems to be much more dependent on CPU speed than GPU as is to be expected.
The ONLY issue that keeps me from delete my XP drive (which I only have for EvE) is the fact that the client still has intermittent crashes. For me, looks like they are every 1 - 1.5 hours. About half of the crashes have occurred while coming back to the app after minimizing it to the desktop. The other half have been in game, both in station and out in space. All instances have been recoverable with Apple-Option-Esc which kills the client.
So anyway, hope you get these last few niggles worked out.
Oh and for my holiday gift, could you please -
Rewrite EvE online to use OpenGL so you can have proper native clients for each platform; Windows, Mac, & Linux??
Thanks!

Exact same thing for me.

The path is fine, it fixed almost all problems I previously had. Oh, and the performance is quiet good! But i got a new - weird - bug: Sometimes in the star-/solarmap (!) I get static in the sound. It's a pretty loud distortion. Maybe OSX 10.5.6. is the culprit...

I'm still having the issue that while playing if I command + tab out, it doesn't show Eve as a running program. Unless i get the system monitor (not sure what you call it in a english OS X) and you can see it running .If you click on the eve icon it does transfer you into the the correct client.
It's "visual" thing only, but rather annoying if you play without sounds and if you don't know it's running...you wont.
Anyone else having this? Stop whining. |

Same here. It happens after maybe 4-5 hours of play and is otherwise very reminiscent of the crashes we saw early in the year, when some stray process "tainted" subsequent attempts to run the client (and other programs). Once the first crash happens, any restarted client will die within 3-4 minutes — enough to put your ship away somewhere safe, fortunately, but not much more. The main difference is that unlike the old problem, this crash doesn't seem to mass-murder other processes on the system as well — only EVE is affected.
The process can be found (and terminated) through the Activity Monitor, but the subsequent crashing problem remains. The only way to make it work again is to reboot, at which point I get another 4-5h worth of problem-free gameplay. In fact, apart from this issue, everything else is working better, so it's kind of a mixed blessing…
No sig for me, thankyouverymuch. |

Hmmm. I finally decided to try the new Cider update. Now I get random crashes, usually while warping in on something..
Also, this prob is back:
Dec 24 14:35:29 whiplash SystemUIServer[2315]: CGSResolveShmemReference : reference offset (65296) exceeds bounds (32768) on shmem obj 0xb505 Dec 24 14:35:29 whiplash SystemUIServer[2315]: Error (1000) creating CGSWindow
Yea, the shared memory boundary issue is back.
Only a machine restart fixes it. It causes other apps to crash too, and I think it's related to the memory leak issue that's supposedly been fixed.

I cmd-tab alot to switch back and forth and this seems to cause the client to lock up periodically. Whenever that happens, I just make sure is active app (using cmd-tab, it now shows up in the list of apps even though it didn't after I first installed it), and then do an option+cmd+Q+esc to force quit the app. Much better than rebooting.

Do you mean get rid of Cider? (That would be sweet).

No, he means fixing the outstanding bug in post-1480 builds of Cider that necessitate the revert patch and create all of these different released versions of EVE + Cider. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Basically they are fixing the screws ups so they only show on one version (the current). So after that they can fix them... like the other problems we mac users have. |

I get one consistent crash in my mac client (iMac 2007, 20''):
Everytime I clone jump the client starts failing and freezes shortly after. It is like s slow motion crash. The graphics of the old station remain, the interface becomes unresponsive and the only thing that works are the ingame chat channels. I cant even command Q to quit. Once I force quite the app I get an error message. Then I need to relog my copmuter user account, then I can restart EVE and voila, I am at the destination station of my clone jump as if nothing happened. Except I lost 3 minutes of trainig and all the inconvenience.
This is a consistent bug since the latest patch.
Everything else works pretty well actually and I can get about 3 to 5 hours of game play without crashing. The more session changes there are during playtime (joining and leaving fleets, docking-undocking, changing ships, etc) the more likely the crash will be sooner. |

Serapo, this occurs on Windows too.
Pray tell, what is your system? My iMac; 24"; ATI HD 2600 XT; 1 CPU @ 2.8GHZ; 500 GB HDD; 4 GB RAM has more than 1 mess-up.

Mine is a 20"; ATI Radeon HD2600, 2.4 GHz Itnel Core 2 Duo, 300 GB, 2 GB RAM. It does have the occasionl crash and stuff, but it is fairly stable and I don't get half the problems reported around here.
I do run with some of the graphic options turned down though, like that z-buffer thingy set to less than max. |

I get these lockups too. I still don't see Eve in the list of apps, which means I have to open a terminal and 'killall cider' and hope cider dies nicely. Sometimes I have to logout or restart because of OS issues. |

Edited by: Alqualonde on 13/01/2009 08:15:27 MacBook Pro, Radeon X1600 128 MB, 10.5.6. Performance is much better (dunno if it's the EVE patch or 10.5.6) currently - even smooth a lot of the time! - however I am still experiencing the station interior and map line bugs (with default settings). |

Positive feedback? Yes!
Cancelled my account 1 year ago due to constant lockups, crashes, memory leaks, etc. With the latest patch, and Apple's fixes in 10.5.6, EVE is looking and working great even on the exact hardware I was using back then. Reactivated my account happily. Here's to a bright future for EVE on the Mac! |

Maybe this could help:
Problem: iMac canŠt launch eve-online after patch, canŠt start after reinstall and update, and so on ...
Delete Eve comletely from your Mac.
1. The programm in applications folder and 2. the folder: "~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/"
After that Reinstall - Launch - Update - Launch again, it works. (with my iMac)
Hope its helpfully. Javascript:insertsmilie(' ','WebPost','text'); |
