yes.. its range and damage.
both are nice to have specd though. amar don't have alot of versatility, we have gun ships. =)
pulses can do some amazing killing, but im also a big tachyon fan. with our current BS selection beams for apoc.. pulses for badon.. and crazy rambo smarty, neut, and gun mixes for geddons. heheeheeee
different tools in the tool box really, and i recommend both. =)
hope that helps

Edited by: Niara Takeva on 17/12/2008 14:52:22 depends on what you want to do but for most players Pulse is a better choice
with Tech 2 Pulse Laser and Scorch Ammunition you can reach ranges which other races would call "nearly long range" Tech 2 Beam Lasers only has a few niches where it realy shines for example Beam Crusader, Snealot and of course Sniper Apocalypse
later on, you should train both anyway, but i would definitely favor Pulse at the beginning, because its better for missionrunning
anyway its more a question what ships you want to fly and what you want to do, how much time youll use on training certain ship setups and so on

I can honestly say that training for T2 Pulse lasers will be a better choice. T2 Beams, especially on the Battleship level, become very hard to fit if you are talking PvP. Pulse Lasers will eventually outdamage the Beams and will be hitting at 60km+ without much trouble with the proper skills. For PvE this is more then you will need.
Once you get to T2 Pulses the climb to T2 Beams isn't that bad as well. The longest skill train is Large Energy 5. After that you only need to take the spec. skills to L4.

The damage difference between the 2 is surprisingly small with equal skills in both. However the main differences would be range, tracking and fitting. While Pulse Lasers have considerably shorter range (though still Medium Range as a whole) they have much better tracking and considerably lower fitting cost.
Beam Lasers eat grid and CPU to fit (especially true for the Battleship versions) but hit out much further. Their tracking is still decent, but doesn't come close to that of a Pulse laser.
Cap-usage of the Pulse lasers also tends to be a good deal lower (despite their much higher rate of fire)

For now I'd suggest playing around with both and deciding how they work for you. Once you have done that you can think about getting T2.
There are a few Amarr ships that fit missiles, and being an Amarr character isn't a good reason to only fly Amarr ships (although there are other reasons to fly Amarr which are good). ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues |
