That's why the playerbase is so fracking awesome. Only the strong survive. [Or dedicated] [Or insane] [Or all 3]
4.because there is not another sci fi mmo to compete with.
Jumpgate:Evolution has 150k people signed up to the Beta btw.
Tabula rasa, Star wars galaxies and anarchy online come to mind, so there has been competition. They show that it takes more than a sci-fi theme to keep players interested in the long run.

Originally by: Ghoest Thats not really true. Your a big gimp at 6 days. Your gimp at 6 weeks. Ya you could fly a cruiser(and then a BC) with crappy weapons and add some sad DPS to a fleet but thats not going to be fun.
He said you can be useful. You most certainly can't do it all. No serious fleet will be relying on a 6 day old noobs to provide the DPS. That said no one grunt is going to matter much in a sizable fleet and certain roles, like tackling, have to be fulfilled no matter what. Even new players can be useful in those roles even though more experience and character skills will make a huge difference in your performance and ability to survive.

You've heard it here first. The problem is neck, shoulders, and arms. Fix those, and you've fixed your problem.
Easy now, he could just as well be a misogynist, that blames everything on breasts.

People who are new at this game are at a severe disadvantage. Older players enjoy their dominance since it makes the game easier for them. Any player with suggestions that threatens this dominance will be swiftly ridiculed as weak to discourage these ideas. Their only reasoning is that things should continue "as is" because they've always been that way. It's ironic since it's actually the older players that are the ones who want an easier game by ensuring newer players will never be equally competative. They are afraid of newer players with superior skills so the rely on the crutch of higher SP.
This.
Eve is extremely frustrating for the noob. The game is so deep that the basic mechanics are difficult enough to get used to without the problems the op raises. Even if the op hadn't gone into to low sec he would, sooner or later have had some other problem with the high sp players hanging around high sec.
I have less than 5M SP and have just been pwned by a can-flipper with probably >20M SP. It's pathetic that these players, with years of skill training behind them, are still hanging around high sec looking for noobs rather than getting stuck into the game the way it was designed to be played.
With the way high sec is managed in this game, it's not surprising that the op, as with many other players you see posting here, utter the magic words "f**k this" and reach for the delete character button.

What you forget is that most players haven't played EVE since it first came out and have gone throught the exact same thing as you. I would be one of them. I have also watched as new players have shaken this game and risen to the top by their own skill and determination. These people didn't waste time whining how hopeless it was to compete with veterans. They learned, adapted and accomplished. This attitude is something many admire and respect in this game. That is why we are hostile to whiners complaining that things are too hard. Their attitude stinks and we don't want to encourage it. If left unchallenged CCP might listen to them and ruin the great game they have made.
There are issues that can be adjusted without affecting the core of the game. Complaining about the perceived difficulty of the game isn't one of those. Things really aren't that hard, you can even team up with the veterans and with the right attitude you can do great things. In almost every case it's more of an issue with lack of thinking and a rotten attitude to learning how the game works. The OP falls in to this category.
There is a meaningful difference between character skills, and there should be, but it becomes insignificant compared to player skills very quickly. A veteral can start a new character and be killing players with several times his skillpoints within hours. This is because he knows that it take more than skillpoints to win a fight, how the game works, how to use his brain and doesn't give up the fight before it's over.
