The question is simple (the solution isn't, but I'm not asking that):
Right now, which is the better option for a person: 1. Mining in high-sec 2. Mining in low-sec 3. Mining in 0.0 4. Making T1 components. 5. Making T2 components. 6. Making T1 ships. 7. Making T2 ships. 8. Making T1 components (elaborate). 9. Making T2 components (elaborate). 10. Trading. (Elaborate!) 11. Something else? (Elaborate and rant)
The other way to look at this question is that I am asking where the hole is in the economy right now. I haven't played in months because of RL concerns, so here I am dropped into the mix.

That's a hard question for us to answer without you being a little more specific. Having said that, I'll just try and give you some advice. First off, you have to figure out what you like, do you a combat or industrial type? So you can decide to blow up asteroids or ships. And how much risk or you willing to take for profit? This will tell you if if you want to operate in high, low or null sec.
In my opinion, if you want to make the big bucks and stay interested the longest, you need to get into a corp that hangs out in 0.0 space. From there you can mine, rat or manufacture to your hearts content and generate the bigger returns on your time.
However, it's riskier and you may not quite have the skills to fly with the big boys ... yet. Some corps have minimum skill requirements, some don't. Some corps will bend over backwards to help a newbie, other don't.
Now that there aren't any bugged POS's anymore *wink* the very best money is probably to be made by lowsec pirating ... and mining is *lame*. Remember that, too! =)
Contact me in game if you need advice.

10. Trading. (Elaborate!)
Buy low, sell high, in very high quantities / isk value.
The more the better off you are.
Step 1 - Get a freighter
Step 2 - Establish a trade route / needed items in another region / solar system (preferably both).
Step 3 - Trade said items and wait for them to sell
Repeat.
Once you have a few hundred mill invested you will be pulling in some good amounts of isk. =----------=
