So, you're mining with a group of buddies, minding you're own business, not causing any trouble. (Carebear yes, flame on!) Along comes a player who likes to play bumper cars at 2000 m/s making it difficult to conduct your mining op. Not only that, this toon does it for hours on end. What would you do?

Two Options:
1. Ignore them, they are just trying to provoke you into fighting.
2. Get your buddies into pvp setups and kill him. (though im guessing your not can mining so make sure you drop a bit of ore for him to steal first)
The good news is that if he really is doing it for hours, then pretty soon he will be SOOOOOOOO bored of it all he will give up.

If he's not doing it for profit or any real reason at all other than to be an ass, then you can petition it

You could orbit the asteroids in like 1km distance, I imagine it'll be more difficult to bump you off that way.

I dont think u can petition it. I've bumped miners away from asteroids when they were mining roids that my friends were mining. He can easily claim that he was trying to save the rocks for his friends, or trying to make sure you get less money in a competitive sense.
The same thing goes for getting in the way of highsec autopiloting freighters. "What? I set the freighter on autopilot 3 hours ago and he's still in perimeter?"

whine about it on the forums....oh wait.
Do something about it in game brosef. It's a pvp game get with the program. Don't you dare petition it (actually I hope you do and get banned for wasting gm time and resources). -------------------------- NOTR *nsfw* |

Bumping without a reason is petitionable. If he was trying to goad you into attacking he'd flip your can.
If the OP attacks the bumper he gets Concorded since the bumper hasn't actually done anything the game deems an aggressive act.
In short petition it. Or if he's not in an NPC corp either wardec him or hire mercs to do it for you. -------------------------------------------------- Signature |

use your inertia, orbit at 5km around your roid and your momentum is greater than his so you are not nudged.

Have never experienced such behavior. I am just curious how often such behavior happens. I mean how anti social do people have to be to actually do that more than two or three times?

Hey Masternerd, how often could you really do that before you actually get bored? I mean you would basically be wasting your own time while making potential enemies yourself.....

inertia =/= momentum
Inertia is constant (at non-relativistic velocities) and is proportional to mass. Momentum is variable and is proportional to mass and velocity.
I know for a fact the bumping mechanics use inertia instead of momentum to calculate collisions, which is good otherwise stationary ships would cause a divide by 0 error.

idk, him bumping them out of the belt could be made into "profit"
if he bumps the OP out of the belt, OP cant mine the ores and the bumper's corpmates can instead mine that ore that OP would have originally taken
sounds like profit to me
second, to the OP, like someone said, fit a few combat ships and do abit of jet-can mining then pop his ass when he flips you

If it actually is going as you say it is then yes, petition him under harrasment.
There is a difference between being a greifer and just been a pathetic waste of space. Petitions deal with the latter.

Even orbiting a jetcan would work. Not only would it make aiming his bumps more difficult, but when he manages to bump you, your ship automatically moves back into position. ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues |

I can only imagine this sort of behavior is rare. Especially when the griefer gets absolutely nothing out of it, nor is he causing any real loss to others.
Sort of like a child putting his finger in someone elses face and singing "I'm not touching you." ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |
