Don't train for something, or restart your character, just because something is the flavor of the month or the best at something. Caldari are good at pvp, just like all races are good at PVP. All races have advantages and disadvantages, and though at most times there is a 'best; in PVP like the nano gangs that used to fly around a lot in the pre QR days, they will eventually be nerfed, and then you will regret training for it.
Plus if you decide later that you want to do something else, there's no reason why you cannot train another race's ships.
If you want to tackle fly a Merlin for now. It's not the best tackler, but it will get the job done. And honestly most t1 frigs are going to melt pretty quick to any sort of real firepower. They're fun because they're expendable. If you like it you can move up to interceptors or assault frigs. Or if you'd rather have more firepower you can move up to the Drake.
Buy 10 of them, look for, or ask for, some fitting suggestions on the Ships and Modules forum and fit them out. Go attack ships you find in Low sec until all your frigs are dead. By the end of it you'll have learned a lot about PVP, like which ships are suicide to engage in a t1 frig (hint: there are a lot). Every time you die, think about what you did wrong, and what you could have done to change the outcome. By the end of it you might have a kill or two as well, which is a cool feeling. I still remember my first kill, remember the system too, even after 9 months or so.
Also, try and join a good pirate corp that will help show you the ropes. No gang will turn down another tackler. Bring a Griffin and help jam, or bring a Merlin and lay down a tackle or two. You'll have a lot of fun and make some friends to fly with. Players are valuable in EVE PVP the instant they can use basic tackle gear.
TL/DR version 1. Don't worry about what's best or not, you'll enjoy EVE more if you fly what you like. 2. Fly what you can afford to lose, t1 frigs are the way most people learn pvp. 3. Find a corp willing to teach you the ropes. 4. Have fun and don't be mad when you lose, because you will lose a lot.
Edit: Don't wait until you have X trained to start PVPing, I got my first kill when my char was less than a week old. Experience is the most important factor in PVP, not skill points. The only way to get combat experience is to get into some combat.
Yeah man thanks, i have also found a corp that will help me with pirating, maybe we can also go in groups, though i have not joined yet so hopefully later ill beable to start pirating. Cheers mate and happy new year
I've been pirating for as long as I can remember, and I would have posted the same as what he's posted there had I seen the thread earlier.
Glad to hear you've found a corporation, it's always nice to see a rookie fitting in
