... i do not wanna rant or whine, these guys just had me pants down, the only thing i cannot get is the why.
The story in short:
I was approaching a gate in a 0.3 system, when i saw some red boxed guys and i thought **** .... you will have to pay them as they targeted me and began shooting. I was in a BS so i was clearly a good target for a reasonable ransom. I gave a greeting in local, armor already down ... structure down ... ship down ... pod down.
Back at station i convod Ms. Zarquon Beeblebroy as i have a high opinion on her and her being polite when gate camping ( so i thought ). Here is the convo:

[ 2004.07.19 22:52:16 ] Burzon > hi

So what is the point in this except mindless destruction ?? Pirating for ISK ... i am fine with it. Pirating for pure destruction ... this gets to griefing.
Anyway just my 2 cents on this. Maybe someone can explain to me.

Its hard to sit and wait for someone to pay if sentry guns are attempting to change the inside of your hull to resemble an Escher print. In that situation the only thing that you can hope for is something valuable in the can.

I wonder when people will understand it.
There no way a small pirate gang could ransom you next to sentry guns, only when they are perfectly set up for a blockade (which I'm sure is not Zarquon's style).

Oh... podding is a different story, I use to pod people because of the throphy, I'm a hunter after all ;).
Btw. dead cattle make no noise... noise makes cattle run.

In which way exactly have you trusted him? You gave Zarquon no money or anything else, you thought you could try to get out of the affair without getting harmed and if not that you would still have the option to pay? It's not that easy, and it doesn't matter if you are honourable or not, sentry guns hurt.
It actually hurts to kill people like you (not sure if Zarquon would second that) but you never know before you do it.

Someone doing a business for profit usualy weighs the risks against the profits. Gate camping in 0.3, as the convo shows, is far away from this concept, so the statements around this forum must now be seen as plain wrong, as the changes in sentry system made the "serious" pirates level with the "scum" as there is no distinct difference between them now ... shoot, kill, pod without asking.
Again, just my 2 cents.

if people hadnt moaned about the guns not being good enough and they hadnt beefed them up you may well have had the chance but at the same time with the ammount of mwd's and warpcore stabs people travel with you will rarly kill ppl at a gate.
and yes xpohoc is right once dead a corpse is a memory/trophy of your kill which since missile dont pod ne more should be impossible without a frig or ton of sensor boosters once blown up you should have just double clicked and insta warped away

Question: if the corpse is a memory/trophy of the kill and such, does this mean that the 'good pirates' relish in gate ganking someone just as much as the griefers? I mean, I can understand keeping the corpse for an honest kill, i.e. an honorable even-odds fight, but it seems odd that someone would think the same about a gank.

If you know your going to die, go after the guy the sentrys are going after. Warp scram him and take him down with you. Only thing to do in that situation really. If you can drop him the sentrys will go to the next guy to agress on you.
The best is to try and find noobies that are willing to attack you alone in front of the sentrys. Had one guy attack a breacher I was flying, only to be warp scramed and removed of his ship (took forever due to the weak sentrys in low sec space). That guy was a noob tho, The Teddybears are not.
