Sorry if this has been discussed to death already, it seems as though it should have been but I did not find any threads about this in the search.
I was discussing getting a jump freighter with a friend of mine and we really were looking over the ups and downs of this ship. It is nice that it can jump around .4 and lower and then just mosey into high sec. But its cost is insane, so insane that I am having a hard time seeing how the price is justified when you hold it up against a Rorqual.
Using logic, you should be able to make a simple freighter jump with the standard set of capital ship BPO's. Add some computer systems and some jump drive parts, and it should work right?
So what is the point of making this ship T2? In my opinion it is not appropriate, it seems like the developers pushed to get T2 cap ship components in the game. If it were to remain a T2 class ship, I think it should at least warp faster, align faster, not take as sever of a cargo capacity hit and be able to jump anywhere in eve in a single shot. Otherwise it should be T1 as the ship fits in more with the rest of the T1 specs that fit similar roles.
Maybe I am not seeing the light?

Tech 2 is not necessarily better than tech 1... just more specialized. The jump freighter fits this description.
And yes, this is also an attempt to get the tech 2 cap ship components in game. More steps in the chain are good for the industrial player's experience, and it's not like factory w***es are getting a lot of other boosts lately.

I own one jumpfreighter, got it shortly after they were available.
Rest assured, they are perfect. The price tag is justified for a ship that aligns faster than a freighter, has some additional hp, and most importantly can jump out of highsec into 0.0.
They filled a niche, and are used a lot. They're also perfectly fine. ----------------------------------------------

I also have to question the wisdom of making jump frieghters T2, considering that all they are is a freighter with capital jump drives taking up some cargo space. I would have simply introduced them as a Tier 2 or Tier 3 Freighter and been done with it.
but then I find that ccp is completely backward with how it handles many things in this game, so I suppose this is to be expected - it is still the best game of its' kind at the moment.

Jump Freighters really should have two rig slots. Keep them without L/M/H slots, but two rigs wouldn't be game-breaking.

nah make it like the rorqual give em a couple of mids slots to shield tank so they dont instant pop.

Giving them the ability to tank is a bad idea. If you're taking a JF into a situation where you'd actually NEED a tank, you deserve to lose it. Giving them the ability to fit two T2 cap rigs to seriously bring jump recharge into the 2m range, or two T2 cargo rigs would be the best thing, and still not break any game dynamics.

I think if any slots were to be added, it should be limited to rig slots.
I am mainly puzzled by it when you hold it up side by side with the Rorqual, the Rorqual makes the jump freighter look way over priced, both in skills that it takes to fly it and in the journey to bring a new one into the game. Yes I understand that the jump freighter has a bit over 2x the capable cargo space, but look at all the other stuff the Rorqual does.
If the Jump Freighter stood alone in the lineup of what could provide logistics, I suppose I would have no complaints.
