If you really are new to eve, and your looking for intel on what ship to fly, the answer is what ever ship you can easily afford to lose..in other words... one you have 3 or 4 of sitting in station already fitted and if you get popped its no skin off your nose or out of you wallet to buy and fit a replacement.
Bc's are fairly easy to t1 fit in a few months but t1 fit...wtf!
im not a pirate, and have no use for most of what tries to pass as pirates today, so I have no real advice if your going that way, but if your looking to be a real pilot stay in the merlin till you can t2 fit it completly, then continue flying it till you have the skill set to t2 fit a moa or caracal.by then you should know if you have the isk making ability to fly hacs and not worry when they pop( only real insurance for a hac is rigs)....if not stay.. in t2 frigs and t2 fit cruisers till your isky situation says more.IMHO

To be honest, if you're not going to fly frigates, don't waste the time training frigate weapons (Guns are required T2 as you have to train small to get medium) but as far as missiles you can skip small stuff completely.
I still suck at flying battleships after over 2 years in EVE, because I never skilled for them. There are players half my character age and SP that put me to shame in a battleship due to focusing their training on one thing. I of course can fly very nearly every T2 ship BC and smaller for all races, and 3 races battleships (horribly).

note the 3 races statement...focus.... one class and one ship type at a time...the lower class ships skilled correctly train you for the larger ones,...so by the time you get to training bs's you'll have the skill sets( gaming skills and training skills) to fly them right... there is nothing worse than having a nice ship that you have not the game skill or the skill set to defend. IMHO

I have a variety I fly: Amarr and Minnie recons... same with HAC's, Torp Raven, Phoon, Pest, Mael, Domi, Inties, my Widow... whatever is needed to get the job done. All with the best of the best fitted.

I could never figure out battleclinic tbh. How do you link your kb to it? bc seems to have 1/5th of our kills and 99% of our losses automatically posted.
