Agreed. Foiritain turned justice into spectacle. He's turned a necessary evil into a circus for the howling mob.
Not his fault, I suppose - If a democracy bays for blood, then those in power have no option but to provide.
*Stitcher shakes his head sadly*
Dead by the mouths of the mob, not by his own hand with honour. Not the end I'd choose for any man, even a traitor. -

Originally by: Kyoko Sakoda This depends on the condition of the Admiral being repentent. High treason is a death sentence whether or not the perpetrator feels shame.
Where I'm from, the treasonous man would at least be given the option of sparing himself the public humilitation.
It's not a question of repentance, it's a question of dignity - the Federation's. -

Originally by: Kyoko Sakoda I've never actually learned where you come from Verin, but if it was the State on the whole, given the circumstances that brought him here I'm not sure he would have been given the option.
He would in Ishukone, of that I'm certain. Even if it was just as simple as handing him a gun with one shot in it an hour before the scheduled execution then leaving him alone in his cell with a parting comment about "doing the right thing".
Dunno how it's done elsewhere in the State, but we used to do that even in the Akkilen years. That said, Tanto squad tended to have orders just shoot men like Eturrer on sight.
With respect, Kyoko, you're a Gurista. Can you honestly claim that your opinion of the State doesn't have a negative bias? -

not this again...
If there's one anti-slavery argument I hate almost as much as I hate the practice of slavery itself, it's the whole "Innocent people being tortured for fun" bulls**t.
The situation is more complicated than that, pilot. Try engaging the part of your brain that thinks for a change, as opposed to the bit that mindlessly swallows whatever it has been told. -

You really are an exceptionally charming man, aren't you?
Was it really necessary to exaggerate the effects of vacuum decompression that much? A one atmosphere pressure gradient isn't enough to drive a person through a 10mm hole.
A simple "I'm not my government, kid. Leave me alone" would have done it, I think. |

I think it was more intended to intimidate potential traitors and sellouts in their own ranks actually. -

Originally by: Sui Gintou The people spoke.
As Aria Jenneth pointed out, however - they could only speak FOR his execution. Last I checked, humans can't emit anti-sound, which would have been the only way to cast a "no" vote in that circus. Merely remaining silent would be the equivalent of abstaining.
So, it's a choice between vote FOR Foiritain, or not voting at all. Very democratic. -
