Hello,
i msut say that of all the races that gallante have the most unbalanced cruisers.. thorax is better then vexor in everything except in cargohold, and vexor is better then exeq in anything except exeq has 1 more med slot.
The only gallante cruiser that is a bit different is celestis, he has more cpu then thorax less pg but he has missile slots wich is the only thing that makes him different from the others.
Am i the only one who has seen this? for example BB is not a sucky version of moa? and caracal neither.
Just wanted to let you guys know :)

Gallente cruisers also happen to be the most powerful
what do you want, a THORAX NERF to make the vexor look better!?!!??! ................. |

If anything, the Thorax needs a BOOST not a nerf; it could use a little extra powergrid if you ask me. Other than that, I think it's where it should be as a level 3 cruiser that can only use turrets.

I think his point was not about the thorax, but about the other Gallente cruisers not being very unique.
It's like the equipment treadmill syndrone we see in alot of other RPGs. You go from the rusty sword to the short sword, then long sword, then a more powerful sword, and etc. Once you get the better sword, there's no point in using the lesser swords other than for insignificant reasons. "Oh this sword is inferior in every way, but hey at least it looks the coolest!"
Every race of cruisers suffers from this problem exept for the Caldari, who's line of cruisers actually have seperate and unique uses for each one.
It's something that has been ignored since forever, maybe CCP will listen to some of the ideas on improving and adding significance to the other cruisers SoonÖ.

I see your point in general about the gallente cruisers, but: 1) Vexor is a gr8 ninja miner, with 4 named expanders you can get 1200 m3 cargo 2) Celestis is the only gall cruiser with launcher slots so comes in handy depednig on the spawn. 3) thorax though a gr8 ship with a crazy big drone bay is gimped with low pg and cpu so has its problems. 4) Exequtor aint much of anything sometimes when I dock in a pod, I half expect to see myself in one but it never happends....

Id like to see more bonuses to set the ships apart. For example, the Exequor (and other tier1 cruisers) should get a mining bonus, to make them an attractive alternative to a miner moa or minerrax. I could see Vexor getting bonuses to make it more of the fewer, bigger guns cruiser and rax becoming the lots of smaller guns+drones ship. Same goes for the other races (including Caldari, to an extent) as well, if only for the fact that cruisers really really suck right now. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

Edited by: GammaDriver on 20/07/2004 21:30:29 I'm not sure how the Gallente line-up of cruisers is a bad thing though. The loss of cargo for the increased firepower, amongst other things, in the Thorax seems to imply that it really isn't the simple equipment treadmill lineup other games have.
I also see the Gallente offered *very* productive miner ships at lower levels in both Frigates and Cruisers. I am not sure about other races (past Caldari), but the level II Gallente frigate and cruiser offerings allow for more serious ISK making. The Imicus and Vexor seem to stand out for that reason alone.
The ability to make ISK equates into the ability to fight PvP and be able to afford it.
If the Gallente line-up is boring, one needs to look elsewhere in the 'balance' of space power - what other race is offered such a large Indy?
The big, bigger, biggest Gallente ship philosophy seems to work well for that race.
(Perhaps for a change, what some race needs is some cruiser made to shoot straight into a mass of ships and be able to to use massive smart/proximity bombs, but the inability to use rails, lasers or missles effectively? Not sure which race should get such a ship though.)

IMHO vexor are'nt "a bit weaker thorax". Yeah, it costs half price and with good skills u can use almost identical fitting as an thorax and have a realy bigger cargo.
But in my experience i often preferred to use a vexor and not a thorax. I used it for npc hunting ( 4x250mm + smartbomb + mwd) and it worked very, very good. If u ask my why use a vexor and not a thorax my answer is simple:
With a thorax u fill your cargo quite fast and u need to dock, with a vexor u can hunt quite longer before u need to emty your cargo. Is a must when u go hunting far from your base or where there's no stations.
condider also that u pay for a ship that cost half price of a thorax, but can be fitted almost as a thorax. Btw is also a must for ninja miners.
Obviusly between vexor and thorax there's not same differece you can see moa and blackbird/caracall, but vexor have some rules that make it the best choise versus a thorax.

The Thorax is imo the best cruiser in the game, and does pretty much leave the othetr Gallente cruisers redundant. Unless of course you need a ninja mining or crave a spacious interior, the Thorax with 5 blasters and 8 drones (with some frigate support) is a threat to tier 1 Battleships. Yes, fitting it can be a tight squeeze and only 3 med slots is a bit of a disadvantage, but if they increased its PG or CPU it would be way over powered.
Plus its the sexiest looking ship out there

No point in argueing about taste.... (with those that obviously have none. :P ) ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I cant speak for the other races (yet) but I own a Celestis, Vexor and Thorax that I use for agent missions / PvE.
Im not too sure how to use the Celestis yes, its now well armored, so I think railguns (for the range), but I don't have the skills for long range missiles (yet) so im kinda torn when i use it between closing to within 20km to use light missiles, or moving to 30km plus, so my damned rails hit.
The thorax was my ship of choice, until i got peeved off with not having enough cargo for simple level ii courier missions, so now, I use a Vexor. Of course, im using lasers at the moment due to their superior tracking over equivalent range rails, so only have enough PG left to equip a micro smartbomb, which really doesnt help at all :P

Carry 5 cargo expanders and 5 nanofiber structures in your cargo hold, that way you can outfit for your ship for whatever you want, more cargo or more agility.
