My resolutions:
JOIN A CORP I want to finally dip my toes in and join a corp. Hopefully a good one with a lot of friendly people who are serious about EVE but not too serious. A group with ambitions and resources, but a sense of fun and comradery.
SOCIALIZE Along with the above, I aim to socialize a bit more in-game. Not just chatting, but socializing in the method of my actual play and engagements instead of going off on my own to do everything.
OWN A CHARON I'm a couple days of training from being able to pilot a Charon, but I want to own one in 2009.
HAVE A THRIVING BUSINESS For now, I don't need to be filthy rich. I'd simply like to find myself succesfully trading, researching and possibly manufacturing enough to keep my savings growing at a respectable and steady rate - without resorting to mining (I'm a respectably equipped miner, but that's only fun in groups).

PVP Finally get into some regular PVP. Decide whether I want to maintain a good cause or turn toward the dark and lonely side of life as a pirate. Possibly start engaging in faction warfware. I haven't done any PVP at this point as I have had other things occupying my attention and have been busy building my skills (I'm only now at 5m SP).
FIGURE OUT WTF I AM DOING Having never PVP'd before (in a ship at least), I really need to finally break my cherry and get some experience and learn what I'm doing. Figure out what I like doing in PVP. Tackling? Tracking? Sniping? I don't know. I want to find a couple specialties and focus on them in 2009.
JOIN A CORP I, too, want to join a good corp that I can contribute to, learn from and socialize with. Solo pew pew will be amusing enough, I suppose, but I want to be part of something bigger than myself.
GET MY FIRST KILL I know this sounds dumb, but having not done any PVP yet, I don't have any player kills. This should be a simply goal for 2009 and quickly accomplished. Get my first PVP kill. And hopefully not a cheap and dirty kill. I want my first to be a kill with some honor!

Who says every goal has to be epic? What are your personal resolutions? To be a rock star and win the olympics at curling? Or something more reasonable that is acheivable, like increase your savings and lay off the meth a little bit?
Besides, joining the right corp isn't an easy task anyway. I've seen too many people jump right in and find themselves in a very un-enjoyable corp with some terrible experiences.
This year, pick a good corp to contribute to and build a steady income. Maybe 2010 will be the year of epicity (that is surely not a word) and I will be flying a giant golden phallus. But this year, not so much. Regardless, these are things I'm measuring MYSELF against. I don't care if YOU think they're epic or not.
More importantly, what are YOUR 2009 goals - both short and long term?

And now, back on topic:
I don't make resolutions, in RL or ingame. With no expectations, you can never be disappointed, nor can it go wrong. And that's not to say that I don't try to achieve whatever goal I have; on the contrary: I love a challenge!

Just get out of the newbie corp already. It's not like your first one has to be the one you stick with. You're not going to know if it's a good corp until you're in it. Getting out of the newbie starter corp though... eh. Hurry up and just do it.

1. PvP more, so I can
2. score that lucky kill that nets me hundreds of mil in loot, so I can
3. PvP with the more expensive things in my arsenal currently sitting unused due to lack of replacement funds, so I can
4. PvP better opponents
Repeat steps 1-4 until such time as I deploy to Iraq in the January after this one.

My eve-related resolution for '09 and all years into the future:
Become mega-rich, iRL. Quit job, buy house in iceland. Marry gold-digger. Play Eve as much as I want. Laugh at gold-digger's divorce, showing photos of her vacation on tropical paradise. Keep the house, loose the wench. Keep playing Eve. Become involved in drugs scandal. Plead guilty, turn evidence, submit to house arrest. Where I will play Eve, and drink copious amounts of caffeinated and/or alcoholic beverages.
I failed in '05, '06, '07, and '08. But '09, man, I can feel it. This one's a winner.

A resolution is not at all supposed to be noble or virtuous or difficult or impossible. A resolution is just a formal declaration. In this circumstance, a formal declaration (in as much as it's a public declaration that is) of goals you intend to pursue.

Not if you never go outside, because you're playing EVE.
OOH. New resolution: See the Sun at least once in 2009.
Anyway, vanity doesn't strike me as noble under any rationalization. Now, if the resolutions in real life were "contribute more time/money to charity" or "check in regularly on the elderly neighbor", cool. :) -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |
